The Ironman USA Northern California 70.3 Inaugural Race is being held Sunday where 1600 athletes from all over the country will be competing- including our very own Councilmember Bonnie Simmons!

Please be aware of Sunday’s race routes and the following road impacts:

The race begins at Whiskeytown Lake with a 1.2 mile swim, followed by a 56 mile bike ride that takes athletes across a large portion of Shasta County before finishing with a 13.1 mile run.

The bike course travels from Whiskeytown, across Keswick Dam, through part of the City of Shasta Lake, out toward Jones Valley and Palo Cedro, and back toward Redding.

Because of the size of the course, there will be some significant traffic impacts Sunday morning and into the early afternoon.

🚧 SR 299 in the Whiskeytown Area

One way traffic control will be in place between Oak Bottom and Rock Creek Road from approximately 6AM to 10AM.

Drivers should be prepared for delays of up to one hour or longer, depending on race operations or emergencies.

🚧 I-5 and Oasis Road Overcrossing

The overcrossing will be closed to westbound traffic from approximately 7AM to 9:30 AM, with delays of up to 20 minutes possible.

The southbound I-5 off ramp and northbound I-5 on ramp will also be closed.

The southbound I-5 on ramp will only be accessible to eastbound traffic, while the northbound I-5 off ramp will be right turn only.

🚧 SR 299 in East Redding

One way traffic control will be in place between Dry Creek Road and Deschutes Road from approximately 7AM to 11AM, with delays of up to 20 minutes.

🚧 Airport Road and SR 44 Overcrossing

The overcrossing will be closed to southbound traffic from approximately 7:30 AM to Noon, with delays of up to 20 minutes.

The westbound SR 44 off ramp will also be closed.

🚧 Cypress to Hartnell will be Closed in both eastbound and westbound directions from approximately 8:15 AM to 12:45 PM

Major Intersections: Intersections along Hartnell (including Shasta View, Alta Mesa, Victor, Churn Creek, and Bechelli) experience temporary restrictions or closures roughly from 8:15 AM to 12:30 PM as cyclists transition toward downtown.

🚧 Sundial Bridge Drive and SR 44 Overcrossing

One way traffic control will be in place from approximately 8AM to 1PM, with delays of up to 30 minutes.

The northbound lane will be reserved for race participants while the southbound lane remains open.

The eastbound SR 44 off ramp, westbound SR 44 off ramp and eastbound SR 44 on ramp will also be closed.

Detour signs are expected at impacted state highway locations, with the exception of the SR 299 traffic control in the Whiskeytown area.

If you have somewhere you need to be Sunday morning, especially if your plans take you through one of these areas, give yourself some extra time and consider an alternate route.

And while the traffic impacts are something to prepare for, this is also a pretty incredible event to have taking place right here in the North State.

Athletes will take on 70.3 total miles of swimming, biking and running through some of the most beautiful parts of Shasta County.

If you're not in a hurry to get somewhere Sunday morning, you might even find a spot along the course and cheer them on.

School is back this week - and so are drop-off lines, school buses, and students walking or biking.

Please remember to:

🚸 Slow down in school zones.
📵 Put the phone away.
🚌 Watch for school bus signals.
👀 Check crosswalks before moving.

A little extra patience can help everyone get to school and back home safely.

💙 Thank You, Anderson! 💙

What a fun evening at this year’s National Night Out!

Thank you to everyone who came out to Anderson River Park to celebrate our community, meet your neighbors, and connect with the many organizations dedicated to serving our city and region.

We want to extend our appreciation to the Anderson Police Department, Anderson Fire Department, our public safety partners, community organizations, volunteers, food trucks, and everyone who helped make the evening such a success. Your commitment to serving our community is what makes Anderson such a special place to call home.

🏆 Congratulations to the Anderson Fire Department, this year’s Grocery Outlet Battle of the Badges champions!
Thanks to Grocery Outlet’s generous $1,000 donation, the Anderson Fire Department selected Youth Options Shasta as the recipient. Thank you to Grocery Outlet for supporting our community and to both our Fire and Police Departments for bringing a little friendly competition to a great cause.

Thank you again to everyone who attended, volunteered, participated, and helped make National Night Out 2026 a memorable celebration of community, partnership, and public service.

We look forward to seeing you again next year!
