Grimes County has a burn ban in effect.

There are Five exemptions in the order. Four have been in the previous orders # 5 is new to us.

“Prohibited outdoor burning does not include food preparation in barbecue grills or containerized cooking appliances operated in a safe manner. “

Tropical Storm Bertha is approaching Southeast Texas but remains weak and disorganized. At 10:00 AM CDT, it was located about 100 miles east-northeast of Galveston with sustained winds of 45 mph, moving west at 10 mph.

No significant impacts are currently expected for most of Southeast Texas, including Grimes County. The greatest impacts are forecast along the immediate coast.

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for coastal counties including Bolivar Peninsula, Chambers County, Coastal Brazoria, Coastal Galveston, Galveston Island, and Brazoria Islands. No new watches or warnings were issued.

Expected Impacts

Wind

Gusty winds (20–25 knots with gusts up to 40 knots) are possible, primarily near the coast.
Potential for scattered power outages, downed tree limbs, and minor debris issues where stronger winds occur.

Rainfall/Flooding

Scattered showers and thunderstorms may produce localized heavy rainfall, but the overall flooding threat is considered low.
Minor street flooding and ponding in poor-drainage areas are possible.

🚧 Help Us Identify Road Washouts from the July 14 Heavy Rain Event 🚧

Grimes County is asking residents to report damage to county-maintained roads and drainage ditches resulting from the July 14 heavy rain event.

County inspectors are assessing more than 600 miles of roads this week, but public reports can help us identify damaged locations more quickly and ensure nothing is overlooked.
Documenting these damages is critical because the County must develop damage cost estimates to support reimbursement under the disaster declaration.

Please report:
🌊 Road washouts�🕳️ Severe erosion along roadways�🚧 Damaged culverts, shoulders, or drainage features�⚠️ Unsafe road conditions caused by the recent flooding and heavy rainfall
When possible, include: 📍 Road name and location�📸 Photos of the damage�📝 Brief description of the issue

📢 Help Grimes County Qualify for FEMA Individual Assistance
Following the July 14th flood event, we are asking all residents to report damage to their private property, no matter how minor or severe. This includes:
🏠 Flooded homes�🚗 Damaged vehicles�🛣️ Washed-out driveways or private roads�🌳 Property damage from debris, erosion, or fallen trees�🏚️ Structural damage to homes, garages, barns, or other buildings�💧 Any other disaster-related impacts to your property

Collecting this information is critical as the County works to document the full extent of damages and determine whether we meet the threshold for FEMA Individual Assistance. If approved, Individual Assistance may allow eligible residents to apply for disaster-related financial assistance and recovery programs.

Please report your damages even if you have insurance, have already begun repairs, or do not believe the damage is significant. Every report helps paint a complete picture of the impact on our community.
