Last week’s drill focused on the art of reading smoke, flow paths, door control, and fire behavior. We started with a PowerPoint presentation to review these critical concepts, then took what we learned out to the parking lot to put it into practice using a burn prop we built.

This hands-on training allowed our firefighters to see firsthand how fire conditions change under different circumstances and what to expect when approaching a structure fire. Understanding smoke conditions and recognizing changes in fire behavior are essential skills that help firefighters make better decisions and operate more safely on the fireground.

Reading smoke can save lives. Recognizing the warning signs before entering a burning structure helps our firefighters better understand the potential dangers and make informed decisions before committing to an interior attack.

This week’s drill focused on moving big water in areas without hydrants. Our firefighters reviewed water supply operations, water shuttling with tenders, and using two drop tanks to supply master streams capable of flowing large volumes of water at major fires.

There are many areas in and around Andover without hydrants, so we need to be prepared with alternative water supply options when a large fire occurs. 🚒

Training like this ensures our firefighters are ready to adapt, work together with our mutual aid partners, and deliver the water needed to protect our community, and others, when it matters most!

A couple of weeks ago, Station 2 hosted an open house and recruitment night—and the turnout was just as amazing as the hot dogs!

We enjoyed meeting so many residents interested in becoming Andover Fire’s newest members. A few applications are already in, and we’re hoping to see more!

Please submit your application by October 16! We’ll review applications that day and begin the onboarding process.

We had a great time joining Transforms Church for their “Big Truck Sunday” as they celebrated their 7 year anniversary!

There were plenty of awesome big trucks, horse rides, a petting zoo, inflatables, a barrel train, and of course a little free food doesn’t hurt!

Thanks to Transforms Church for having us and for putting on such a great event for the community. Congratulations on 7 years!

The gas leak situation has been resolved. Thank you all for your patience! All of the roads are back open.

🚨 ROAD CLOSURE / GAS LEAK 🚨

Andover Fire is currently on scene of a 2-inch gas line that was accidentally cut. CenterPoint Energy is on scene and working to safely control the leak.

This will take some time to resolve. Please avoid the area and use an alternate route.

An update will be provided once the roads are reopened.
