The city we know today as Andover was first organized in 1857 under the name “Round Lake Township.” However, in 1860 the name was changed to “Grow Township” in honor of Senator Galusha A. Senator Grow spoke at a political campaign in Anoka that year, and the town name was changed to honor Senator Grow because of his strong advocacy of the Union cause. At that time, the population was 330 and inclu

ded the geographical area we know today as Ham Lake. In fact, the area of Ham Lake was considered a part of Grow Township until 1871.

This is a great community service activity that gives the citizens of Andover the opportunity to participate in helping to keep the parks clean and looking good. Individuals or community groups that adopt a park are responsible for picking up litter twice a year, spring and fall.

***Andover Water Restriction Policy***

Andover Residents, the City of Andover enforces irrigation and lawn watering restrictions from May 1st through August 31st every year for residents on the municipal water system.

The City requests the cooperation of all water customers to conserve and follow these restrictions. During the high demand months there are times when the water supply is diminished to dangerously low levels. The City needs to supply adequate water levels for everyday inhome usages and fire protection. These efforts are compromised when all residents do not follow the restrictions. The City needs your help so the system can operate in an efficient manner and all residents receive a fair share of water to maintain yards and gardens.
