Our Story

Paws 4 Ecuadogs was founded in 2016 by my mother and I to help improve the landscape for street dogs in coastal Ecuador. Our mission is to help the most destitute of the dogs in the area from Dos Mangas to San Jose. We are a dog rescue, and paid treatment center. We have personally invested the funds necessary to build a ten run dog shelter in Dos Mangas on the property of our local partner, a vet, a Dr. Juan Carlos Muñoz. We first visited his property in 2016 and witnessed first hand his dedication to the extremely sick street dogs that he rescued himself and brought back to life with the limited resources he has ,with of course the help of some lovely volunteers that live in the area. We noticed right away that if Dr. JC (as we call him) was going to make a difference for these street dogs he needed a better facility. He needed a surgery suite, a quarantine room, and some runs to house recovering dogs that had been rescued off the street. We knew that unless we had a physical location to call our own, we couldn’t properly set up these street dogs, once recovered for a proper adoption.

Over the past few months, we have seen huge growth in Paws 4 Ecuadogs. We are now officially a 5 person team, and have hosted many fundraising events at our business in New Jersey, which happens to be a full service boarding, grooming and training facility for dogs. We have over 35 years experience with dogs, and that is why we have dedicated ourselves to helping as many dogs as we can. With this said, it is important for us at Paws 4 Ecuadogs for everyone to understand that we are a paid treatment facility. There is a brand new gate, with a sign and banner with phone numbers, and hours of operation. Paws 4 Ecuadogs has partnered with Dr. JC and has invested in his veterinary practice by purchasing new technology that can help heal the destitute street dogs, as well as treat the local dogs of our community without having to drive to Libertad or Guayaquil.

We are still a small team, and not living in Ecuador full time yet. Once we are there more we will expand our shelter to up to 40 runs hopefully one day, be able to hire more employees, create real volunteer programs (perhaps vet students etc) and take in more dogs.

To summarize, Paws 4 Ecuadogs loves all animals. They are the little angels of our world. It needs to be very clear that it is not a free animal clinic. If there is an animal you are concerned for, and would like to fund its recovery, now you have a place to turn to. You can bring the dog to the Paws 4 Ecuadogs shelter, if you can pay the board, and food for the dog while its being treated. In return we will treat the animal for whatever medical issues it has and will promote it on the local page to get it a forever home, whether you would like to take the dog home once its ok, or to someone else. If you would like to bring your dog, cat or other animal please, call and make an appointment. If you know of a street dog in the zone that needs help urgently, please message the page and we will do our best to help. But again, we can treat the animal, but it is not FREE. There will be a fee.
