Tomorrow is Election Day in Massachusetts for the 2026 State Primary Election!

If you have not already cast your ballot, polls will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Mail-in Early Voting ballots must be received by 8:00 PM on Election Day to be counted and cannot be returned at polling locations. Voters who still have a completed mail-in ballot are encouraged to use the secure ballot drop box outside Andover Town Offices, 36 Bartlet Street.

Due to a water service leak, Andover DPW will temporarily shut down the water main on Andover Street between Center Street and 189 Andover Street, including Clinton Court, to allow crews to install a valve and complete necessary repairs.

The water main is expected to be shut down for approximately one hour. DPW will flush nearby hydrants after water service is restored, which may result in temporary discolored water in the surrounding area.

Crews are working to notify affected residents directly. Thank you for your patience while this work is completed.

One of the defining natural features of Andover is the 5-mile stretch of Merrimack River coastline. For the past 5 years, the Town’s Conservation Division has partnered with Clean Harbors to help protect and preserve these waters by removing litter and debris from the riverbanks.
Most cleanups involve smaller pieces of trash, but this time the team had a much bigger job; removing three docks that washed up along the shoreline.

During last night’s Select Board meeting, the Board voted to accept two generous donations that will help support improvements to the Sanborn Elementary School playgound. The Colleen Ritzer Memorial Fund is contributing $160,000 toward the project, while the Sanborn Elementary PTO is contributing an additional $75,000.

Together with funding committed by the Town, these contributions will help advance significant upgrades to the playground and create an improved recreational space for Sanborn students.

Andover readers reached a remarkable milestone this summer, logging more than one million minutes of reading through Memorial Hall Library’s Summer Reading Program!

Early voting for the 2026 State Primary is now underway and will be available daily at Andover Town Offices through Friday, August 28. All registered voters are eligible to vote early.

The deadline to register to vote in the State Primary is also today, Saturday, August 22, at 5:00 PM. Voter registration can be completed online or in person at the Town Clerk’s Office at Andover Town Offices, 36 Bartlet Street. The Board of Registrars of Voters is offering extended hours today and will remain open until 5:00 PM.

On Wednesday, Andover Conservation Division staff, in collaboration with Clean Harbors and Andover DPW, conducted a major cleanup along Andover’s five-mile-long shoreline on the Merrimack River as part of the Town’s Merrimack River Cleanup Program, now in its fifth year.

Crews removed the remnants of three old, unusable docks, along with other debris totaling about four dump truck loads and a trailer full of material. By volume, it was the most trash collected in a single day since the program began.

Clean Harbors transported the docks by boat to the state boat launch in Methuen, where a DPW crew, mobilized on very short notice, loaded the debris onto trailers and dump trucks for transport and disposal.

The program was originally funded by Town Meeting in 2021, with additional funding approved in 2026 to continue the effort. Additional Merrimack River clean ups with Clean Harbors will continue monthly into the fall.
