Andover Public Library - Andover, ME Andover Public Library is located in scenic Andover, Maine. In the center of Andover, on Church STreet, is a unique octagonal building, our cherished library.

The building, built in 1899, is octagonal in shape and is registered as an Historic Building in Maine. It was originally a Universalist Church; the land being purchased in 1899, and the building being finished and dedicated in 1903. The brown ash interior was donated by George and Sidney Abbott, who cut the wood on their woud lot on the Kimball Mile in North Andover. By 1941, the Universalist Chu

rch had disseminated, and on November 11, 1943, the Maine Universalist Convention deeded this lovely building to the town with the stipulation that the building must be used as a public library. If at any time, it was no longer used as as a public library, then the deed would revert back to the Maine Universalist Convention. The building was re-shingled in 1944, and in 1948 the library was moved into the building. In 1970 water was piped into the building for the bathroom, which was installed in 1975. The carpentry was done by Howard Bailey and the wiring by Frank Morgan. The Andover Friday Club used the profits from pie sales and flower shows they hosted to pay for this project. On January 27, 1981, the building was entered upon the National Register of Historic Places in the State of Maine. The library has since had extensive restoration work done in the 2000s, making sure to keep everything original and as lovely as ever. The library is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 1-4:30pm and Thursday evening 6-8pm. The mailing address is PO Box 393; Andover, Me 04216
