The Purple Heart is our nation's highest honor given to servicemembers who were either wounded on the battlefield or paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives.

The Purple Heart is also the oldest American military award. The modern form of the original Purple Heart established by Gen. George Washington in 1782 is conferred on any person wounded in action while serving with the armed forces of the United States. It is also awarded posthumously to the next of kin of personnel killed or having died of wounds received in action after April 5, 1917.

This past drill weekend, Lt. Col. Amanda Rae assumed command of the 459th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron.

Prior to this assignment, Lt. Col. Rae was the Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) to the Aeromedical Operations and Readiness Branch Chief at Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. Welcome Lt. Col. Rae!

Farewell to the outgoing commander, Col. Jennifer Cowie! Best of luck at your next assignment!

The 459th FSS Communications Flight has been awarded the CY-25 Lieutenant General Harold W. Grant Small Unit of the Year Award. 🎉

The Lt. Gen. Harold W. Grant Award is an AFRC-level award that recognizes small information dominance and cyberspace units for sustained superior performance, professional excellence and contributions that have improved Air Force and Department of Defense operations and missions.
