After a distinguished career of service to our community, EMS Director Joe Harper will retire this Friday.

Joe has dedicated countless hours to caring for others, leading our EMS team, and making a lasting impact on the City of Andrews. While he would prefer to avoid the spotlight, we would like to ensure he knows how much his service has meant to this community.

If Joe has touched your life, made a difference for your family, or if you would simply like to wish him well in retirement, please send your memories, stories, or best wishes to [email protected]

Because Joe prefers a low-key celebration, his retirement gathering will be limited to City employees. However, all comments and well wishes received will be shared with him during the event.

Please help us thank Joe for his years of dedicated service and wish him the very best in this next chapter of life.

🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT & WATER SERVICE UPDATE 🚧

Good morning, Andrews residents!

We want to keep you informed about some temporary traffic impacts in our downtown area as our crew works hard to keep your water service running smoothly.

πŸ’§ ACTIVE WATER LINE REPAIR β€” MAIN STREET
Our crews are currently on-site addressing a water line break in front of the Courthouse. To ensure the safety of our workers and the public, the westernmost lane of Main Street will be temporarily closed during repairs. We appreciate your patience as we work as quickly as possible to resolve this issue.

πŸ”§ UPCOMING LANE CLOSURE β€” BROADWAY
Later today, we also plan to temporarily close the northernmost lane of Broadway between the EMS Building and Bush's Chicken to install a new water valve. This is not a new idea β€” this valve installation was actually planned and scheduled more than three months ago as a proactive infrastructure improvement designed to help prevent exactly the type of water line disruption we are experiencing today. The project had been pending the necessary regulatory approvals, and given the current emergency circumstances, we are moving forward with the installation while continuing to work through the approval coordination process with the appropriate state agencies.

πŸ“ WHAT TO EXPECT:
- Minor traffic delays in both areas.
- Our crews will be clearly marked and working safely.
- We will restore full traffic flow as quickly as possible.

We sincerely thank our residents and commuters for your understanding and flexibility. Our team remains committed to maintaining reliable infrastructure, and we will continue working diligently with our regulatory partners to ensure all proper processes are followed.

For updates, stay tuned to this page.

"Our "Trash Friend" has taken an extra couple of seconds from his job ANY and every time he sees my 4-year-old daughter to make sure she is known and seen. I appreciate his special attention to her week in and week out. He is always kind and has a smile on his face, a special wave and honk, just for her! This has gone on since she was a brand-new toddler. We absolutely adore our "Trash friend”."

The City of Andrews is pleased to announce the appointment of Talia Bustamante as City Secretary, following her appointment by the Andrews City Council at last night's Council meeting.

The City Secretary is responsible for maintaining custody of all City Council minutes and official legal documents, overseeing municipal elections, preparing materials for City Council meetings, and providing confidential support to the City Manager, Mayor, and City Council. The role also encompasses developing and supervising the City's records retention program, ensuring compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act and the Public Information Act, and serving as the City's Public Information Officer.

Bustamante brings a strong foundation of service to this role, having worked the past four years as a cashier for the City of Andrews β€” a position she will continue to hold alongside her new responsibilities.

"We are confident that Talia's familiarity with City operations and her dedication to public service make her an excellent fit for this important role," said City Manager Steve Eggleston.
