2025 CALAVERAS COUNTY “DROP THE DRUGS” DAY

The Calaveras County "Drop the Drugs" initiative, sponsored by the DEA and hosted by the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office, is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10 am to 2 pm. This essential community event will offer two convenient locations for participants to utilize: The Calaveras Lumber Yard Parking Lot, located at 155 South Main Street, Angels Camp, and Toyon Middle School, 3412 Double Springs Road, Valley Springs, conveniently positioned on Highway 12 between San Andreas and Valley Springs.

"Drop the Drugs" day provides an invaluable opportunity for residents to safely and responsibly dispose of any expired, unused, or unwanted prescription drugs. Our dedicated deputies will be stationed at each site to receive these materials. We kindly request that all identifying information on medicine containers be either marked out or removed to ensure complete anonymity. It's important to emphasize that this service is entirely free, and participants will not be subjected to any questioning.

Since the inception of this program in 2011, Calaveras County's "Drop the Drugs" events, in partnership with the DEA, have successfully removed thousands of pounds of potentially hazardous drugs and medications from our community. Historically, improper disposal methods such as flushing medicines down toilets or tossing them in the trash have posed significant safety, environmental, and health risks.

For those community members who may be unable to attend the event on October 25th, we have established permanent "Drug Drop Boxes" at two convenient locations: the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office in San Andreas and the Angels Camp Police Department. These boxes are available for drug drop-offs during regular business hours, ensuring a continued effort to keep our community safe and clean.
For more information about the Calaveras County "Drop the Drugs" program or the upcoming event on October 25, 2025, please contact Deputy Varni at 209-754-6931.

Welcome Back to School
Today and in the coming weeks, schools in and around Calaveras County will welcome students back for another year of growth and learning. While challenges and obstacles are expected along the way, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputy Scott McNurlin and Angels Camp Police Officer Scott Kirkman (recently retired and returning as a reserve School Resource Officer) will remain a visible and accessible presence, actively monitoring for potential issues and collaborating to enhance safety within the schools. The School Resource Officers would like to remind students, staff, and parents to stay vigilant and practice the principles of “SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING,” encouraging prompt reporting of any concerns to help maintain a secure and supportive school environment.
