The City of Angleton is monitoring the tropical disturbance approaching the Upper Texas coast.

According to the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston, showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase Tuesday, with periods of heavy rainfall possible. The location and amount of rainfall remain uncertain.

City departments are prepared and will continue monitoring conditions. Residents are encouraged to:

Stay informed through trusted weather sources.
Secure loose outdoor items.
Charge phones and weather-alert devices.
Never drive through a flooded roadway.

COUNCIL CONNECTION | AUGUST 25, 2026

The Angleton City Council met Tuesday, August 25. Here are highlights from the meeting:

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Royal Rangers Recognized
Council recognized Harrison Gregory and Gunner Gutzman for earning the Royal Rangers Gold Medal of Achievement Award.

Updated Building and Safety Codes
Following a public hearing, Council adopted updated building, residential, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, energy conservation, property maintenance and related codes. The updated codes will take effect October 1, 2026.

Proposed Tax Rate and Public Hearing
Council set the proposed Fiscal Year 2026–2027 tax rate at $0.515246 per $100 of taxable value. A public hearing will be held September 8, 2026.

Smart Storage Plat
Council approved a variance related to the Smart Storage Final Plat, with language clarifying that the property owner will be responsible for extending the required waterline and that the City will not be responsible for the extension.

Proposed TxDOT Hub Project
TxDOT presented plans for a proposed parking hub for freight trucks and other vehicles at its East Orange Street facility. Council raised concerns about traffic, heavy trucks, road conditions, noise, crime and the project’s proximity to residential neighborhoods. No action was taken.

Animal Control Center
Council heard from Animal Control employees about health and safety concerns at the current facility. Staff was directed to explore temporary sewer and ventilation repairs, modular workspace for employees and options for a permanent solution.

City Hall Annex
Council discussed the current and potential future uses of the City Hall Annex. Staff was asked to provide financial information comparing options to rent, sell, renovate or modify the facility. No action was taken.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Following Executive Session, Council approved a utility easement agreement with the American Legion and authorized the Mayor and staff to execute the necessary documents.

WHAT’S NEXT

Items requested for future consideration include:

• An update on road overlays
• Animal Control and street ordinances
• Review of the City’s freight truck parking ordinance
• Consideration of a paid-time-off sharing program for employees

The next regular City Council meeting and public hearing on the proposed tax rate will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

SCAM ALERT: FRAUDULENT CITY INVOICE

The City of Angleton has been notified that a fraudulent invoice was sent to a developer by someone posing as a City representative.

The document uses the City of Angleton’s name, logo and address and requests payment by wire transfer for purported development and approval fees. The City did not issue this invoice, and the fees listed are not legitimate City of Angleton fees.

The request was sent from an email address that is not affiliated with the City. Official City of Angleton email addresses end in .tx.us.

If you receive an invoice or payment request claiming to be from the City:

• Do not send payment or provide financial information.
• Do not reply to the message or use the contact information it provides.
• Verify the request directly with the appropriate City department using contact information from the City’s official website.

Developers and contractors with questions about any invoice or request for payment should contact Development Services Director Otis Spriggs at [email protected].

Please share this warning with anyone currently involved in a development or construction project in Angleton.
