☀️ Happy Summer, Westside Families! ☀️
We hope everyone had a wonderful first weekend of summer break! 😎 Summer is the perfect time for endless fun, family adventures, and making memories that last a lifetime.
It’s also the perfect opportunity to keep building a love for reading by sharing stories together! To help keep that reading momentum going, we’ll be sharing fantastic reading opportunities all summer long. 📚✨
Speaking of reading... did you know that as a school, Westside read over 170 million words last school year?! Let’s keep those minds sharp and that incredible tally growing!
🏛️ Summer Reading Opportunity #1: The White House Summer Reading Challenge!
We are kicking things off with a very special nationwide challenge hosted by Second Lady Usha Vance!
The White House is inviting all kids (grades K-8) to join the official Summer Reading Challenge. The goal is simple: pick any 12 books that inspire your curiosity—fiction, nonfiction, classics, or new favorites—and read them between June 1 and September 4.
Once your child finishes their 12 books, you can submit their reading log online. All participants will receive:
🎓 A personalized certificate & digital letter
🔖 A special commemorative bookmark
🎟️ Entry into a raffle for a chance to win a trip to visit the White House in Washington, D.C.!
👉 Click here to join the fun and download your tracking log: https://www.whitehouse.gov/read/
Enjoy the sunshine, grab a great book, and happy reading, Westside! 🍉🍦

🏆 Big Wins & Big Screens! 🍿
Our readers are officially taking over! Today, we celebrated two incredible groups of academic champions with an action-packed field trip to Schulman’s MBG in Bay City.
Check out these stats:
• The 40-Book Club: 16 amazing 3rd graders crushed their "40 Book Challenge," proving that consistency is key! 📚
• The Word Wizards: 38 hardworking 2nd graders each read a staggering 185,000 words or more to earn their magical titles! 🪄
The reward? A day full of high-scores in the arcade, a delicious lunch, and a private screening of Hoppers.
We are so incredibly proud of the dedication these students showed to their reading goals this year. Keep turning those pages, superstars! 🌟

Huge congratulations to our incredible 25 reading rockstars from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade! These dedicated students reached a massive milestone this year by reading over one million words each.
To celebrate their hard work and literary stamina, we traded the library for the lanes! Our "Millionaires" headed to Main Event in Webster for a well-deserved day of bowling, games, and non-stop fun. 🎳✨
By The Numbers:
• 25 Star Readers
• 1,000,000+ Words read per student
• Countless memories made!
We are so proud of your dedication to reading. Keep turning those pages! 📖💻
