We are heartbroken to hear of Trooper Sergio Romero's passing in the line of duty yesterday afternoon. We extend our deepest condolences to our brothers and sisters at Texas DPS and to the family of Trooper Romero for your tragic loss.

Please keep all those affected in your prayers as the community grieves.

It is with great sadness that DPS announces the death of Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Sergio Romero.

Trooper Romero was attempting to conduct a traffic stop along US-287 near Childress, around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, when a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled out in front of him, causing his patrol unit to collide with the vehicle. Trooper Romero died on scene.

Trooper Romero answered the call to serve each day with honor and remained steadfast in his commitment to protecting and serving Texans. The DPS family will never forget the ultimate sacrifice he made in service of this state.

👩‍💻 NOW HIRING: Public Safety Systems Administrator👨‍💻

Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Public Safety Systems Administrator to maintain and optimize the County’s Records Management System (RMS) and Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) platforms to ensure continuous and reliable operation, along with supporting and interfacing all systems and programs. This role serves as the primary liaison between County personnel, vendors, County Information Systems, and the League City Public Safety (GRID) staff to support system functionality, troubleshoot issues, and implement upgrades.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Public Safety Systems Administrator ensures data integrity and accuracy across CAD and RMS systems, including validation of entries and error correction; Plans, tests, and implements system updates, including participation in testing environments (UAT); Monitors and supports compliance with CJIS policies, NIBRS reporting standards, and state reporting requirements; Assists with integration and data exchange between CAD/RMS and other criminal justice and public safety systems and products; Develops and maintains system documentation and standard operating procedures; Provides training and guidance to end users, including Communications, Records, and field personnel; Generates reports and supports data analysis for operational and administrative needs; and Participates in long term system planning, including lifecycle management and future enhancements. PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a relevant field of study; Motorola Solution system training or certification (PremierOne); and Relevant IT certifications (e.g. CompTIA, Microsoft, database or application administration). Message from Sheriff Bo Stallman:

I know there are many questions surrounding the recent officer-involved shooting that resulted in the tragic loss of a young man.

This is a serious matter, and I hear the concerns and emotions expressed throughout our community. I also understand why people are seeking answers. I assure you, we seek those same answers. Our limited public comments should not be interpreted as a lack of concern, urgency, or recognition of the seriousness of this incident.

From the outset, I requested an independent investigation of the shooting and the events that led up to it. This investigation is being conducted by the Texas Rangers and the Brazoria County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. One of my responsibilities as your Sheriff is to ensure that this investigation proceeds objectively and without interference. The Sheriff’s Office is committed to full cooperation with the investigation, no matter the results.

Because this investigation is ongoing, I am unable to comment on specific matters and facts related to the active investigation.

Please continue to keep the family, our community and all those affected by this tragedy in your prayers as our community grieves.
