The Angola Rodeo, the longest running prison rodeo in the nation, got its start in 1965. The first arena was small, built by a handful of dedicated inmates and personnel. It wasn't much in those days, and the rodeo was staged just for the entertainment of prisoners and employees. What began 40 years ago as a "fun" thing by a handful of rodeo-loving inmates and employees is now big business. Procee

ds from the Angola Prison Rodeo cover rodeo expenses and supplement the Louisiana State Penitentiary Inmate Welfare Fund which provides for inmate educational and recreational supplies. The objective of the Angola Prison Rodeo remains to provide the prison population at Louisiana State Penitentiary with an opportunity for positive behavior changes.

Event Details:

● 8 am: Gates open
● 8 am–5 pm: Arts and Crafts show booths & food booths open
● 2 pm–4 pm: Rodeo
● Admission: $20; children 2 years and under free as long as they sit on your lap
● Cash and all major credit cards accepted for crafts; cash only for food
● Smoking prohibited; no outside food or ice chests.
● Clear, transparent plastic bag will be permitted to enter. All bags subject to search.
●Umbrella strollers recommended.
● Buy tickets in advance; event usually sells out

Some things to make sure you are aware of before purchasing your tickets.

-ALL TICKETS ARE 20 DOLLARS EACH!!!
- Gates open at 8 am, Rodeo hours are 2pm-4pm with the gates staying open until 5:30pm.
-There are NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES
-children under 2 are free as long as they sit in your lap
