With another round of potentially severe weather moving into the area, we would like to once again remind you to have multiple ways to receive alerts and warnings. Have an evacuation or shelter plan in place; make plans now to keep your family safe.

While it true that the local NOAA/NWS Radio transmitter for Angola/Steuben County is limited in range, you may be able to pick-up alerts by changing to the Ft. Wayne channel of 162.550. The NWS is working to make repairs to the transmitter. Please keep in mind that this is not within the control of the local NWS office.

Other means of monitoring the weather can include; Local Broadcast Media, trusted weather apps, turning on the WEA feature on your cellular device, and reaching out to friends and family, or alerts through the FEMA app.

Get prepared and build your emergency kit ahead of severe weather. Here are some quick tips:

- Have at least three gallons of water stored for each person in the household.
- Pack at least three days' worth of non-perishable food.
- Create a first aid kit.
- Include tools, supplies and clothing to last for several days.
- Keep in mind that there may be no electricity during an emergency or disaster, so assemble items that do not require electricity.

If your power is out, stay safe and take a few simple precautions:

• Report the outage to your utility provider as soon as possible.
• Stay away from downed power lines and assume all lines are energized.
• Use flashlights instead of candles when you can to reduce fire risk.
• Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to preserve food.
• Use generators outdoors only, far from doors and windows, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
• Check on neighbors, especially older adults or those who may need assistance.
• Continue monitoring local officials and weather updates for recovery information.

Severe weather is possible today and tomorrow. Two lines of storms move through today with the best threat of producing damaging winds, but the other threats cannot be ruled out. The stronger severe weather threat is Wednesday and Wednesday night when all hazards are on the table. Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings!

After a storm passes, cleanup can present its own hazards. Before removing debris, watch for downed power lines, unstable trees, damaged structures and hidden sharp objects. Wear sturdy shoes, gloves and other appropriate protective equipment when cleaning up storm damage.

Never touch downed utility lines, and use caution when operating chainsaws or other power equipment. Taking a few extra minutes to work safely can help prevent injuries during recovery.
