A big thank you to the Garden Club for planting flowers throughout the village and helping make our community look its best. Your hard work and dedication are truly appreciated!

While you're enjoying the new blooms, keep an eye out for the “dollars for flowers” sponsored by the Friends of the Village hanging baskets, which will be hung throughout the village later this month. Summer is starting to take root, and our village is looking more beautiful every day!

📣The Village of Angola is proud to announce that we have been awarded $4.5 million through Governor Kathy Hochul’s NY Forward Program to help revitalize our downtown and invest in the future of our community.

This is a transformational moment for Angola. These projects reflect the ideas, energy, and commitment of our residents, business owners, and community partners who helped shape a vision for a stronger, more vibrant downtown.

The 7 awarded Angola NY Forward projects include:

🔹 Establish the Angola Small Project Fund – $600,000
Creating a matching grant program to support building improvements, renovations, and small business investments throughout the NY Forward area.

🔹 27 North Main Street Mixed-Use Development – $1,246,000
Construction of a new mixed-use building with commercial space, upper-floor housing, and rear parking to strengthen walkability and attract new investment.

🔹 29 Commercial Street Restaurant Build-Out – $551,000
Completion of the historic building restoration with a first-floor restaurant, outdoor seating, accessibility upgrades, and site enhancements.

🔹 Parks and Recreation Improvements – $808,000
Enhancements to the N. Main Parklet, Frawley Park, and Centennial Park including accessible restrooms, new play equipment, lighting, pathways, landscaping, and gathering spaces.

🔹 Former 1919 Fire Hall Redevelopment – $303,000
Transformation of 7 North Main Street into a restaurant and banquet hall while preserving the historic character of the building.

🔹 Widmer Hotel Redevelopment – $188,000
Conversion of the former hotel into a local tavern and event space with a restored façade and rear patio.

🔹 Azalia’s Juicery Expansion – $804,000
Expansion of production and dining space, improvements to the rear patio and parking area, and support for the Peaceful Soul Farmers Market.

Mayor Tom Whelan stated:
“The excitement from our residents has been incredible. People care deeply about the future of this Village, and that energy helped shape a vision we can all be proud of. These projects will bring new life to our downtown, support local businesses, create new gathering spaces, and continue building momentum for Angola’s future. We are grateful to Governor Kathy Hochul and New York State for believing in our community.”

Thank you to everyone who participated in the NY Forward planning process and helped make this possible. The future of Angola is bright!
