Animas Fire responded to a report of a brush fire on Hwy 9 & Duy Rd, east of Hachita. First arriving units from Station 3 were able to stop all forward progress and additional units from Station 1, 2 and Columbus Fire assisted with mop up. Fire was lighting caused and contained at 2.6 acres.

Animas Fire & Rescue responded to a report of a single vehicle accident early this morning on Hwy 81. Upon arrival, both occupants had self extricated and were evaluated by EMS.

Animas Fire & Rescue hosted an Annual Wildland Refresher today that was well attended by 5 agencies. These annual refreshers ensure firefighters stay current on certifications and stress the importance of safety with the upcoming fire season. Thank you to NM State Forestry and Las Cruces BLM for providing the training.

We were contacted by Roadrunner Foodbank today to use our station parking lots for a pilot program.

Roadrunner Foodbank will be at the Animas Fire Station 1 (13 Maverick Road) at 10am, Thursday, January 8 and at Animas Fire Station 3 (4424 Hwy 9 Hachita) at 1pm.

These are prepackaged produce boxes. They only need your name, phone number and number of people in the household. If you are picking up for friends or family, they only need their name and number as well.

Members of the Animas Fire & Rescue, Hidalgo County Fire & Lordsburg Fire attended a class today on Propane Awarness for First Responders.

Firefighters received classroom instruction as well as hands on demonstration. Thank you to Umphres Propane for assisting with hands on portion.

Thank you to the NM Propane Association and the Rocky Mountain Propane Association for providing the training at no cost.

Each fire department in attendance also revieced a Gas Meter, courtesy of the propane association, which will allow the departments to provided a safer scene involving gas emergencies.

Today, Animas Fire partnered with NM Tech Playas Training Center to co-host a Fire Evolutions Training at the Playas Townsite. The training was attended by firefighters from Animas Fire & Rescue and the Rodeo Vol Fire Dept.

In the first evolution, firefighters responded to a reported structure fire and were required to complete a scene size up, pull attack lines, make forcible entry, complete search & rescue & ventilation.

Second evolution was forcible entry and search & rescue.

Third evolution, firefighters conducted roof ventilation.

There was no live fire in these evolutions and all smoke was generated by smoke machines.

With the successful completion of these fire evolutions, we look forward to doing more in the spring and inviting more fire departments to join.
