Following the alleged threats made yesterday at Haisley Elementary School, the Ann Arbor Police Department immediatly contacted our office due to the serious nature of the allegations.

Our office has charged the individual alleged to have made those threats at Haisley Elementary School yesterday with two criminal counts: making terroristic threats in violation of MCL 750.543m, and making schools threats, in violation of MCL 750.235b.

The individual is currently hospitalized and will be arraigned once he is released from the hospital. Our office has requested that he be held on a $250,000 bond, with a GPS tether excluding him from Haisley School if he is released.

*All charges are allegations only. Defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

An important message, particularly for tenants at Danbury Park Manor in Superior Township:

We are aware of letters that have been sent to tenants--purportedly from Danbury Park management--claiming to have "formally partnered with the District Attorney's Office" for assistance with rent collection and eviction.

The letters also suggest that a "police es**rt" will be used for "move-out inspections"

These claims are categorically false. The landlords at Danbury Park do not have any partnership--formal or otherwise--with our office or with law-enforcement generally. Nor is the Washtenaw Sheriff planning police es**rts for landlord inspections. The Sheriff's Office is a neutral governmental party which will respond to emergencies and breaches of the peace. Neither the Sheriff's Office nor our Office works for Danbury Park.

If you have questions or need legal help as to your rights as tenants, you can contact Legal Services of South Central Michigan by calling (734) 665-6181 and pressing 3 for Housing Intake. Our office does not and cannot provide legal services for individuals.

The Prosecutor's Office and the Sheriff's Office have launched an investigation into these letters. But as that investigation proceeds, a PSA for all interested parties:

(1) Making false claims in a commercial context may violate both civil and criminal law. Don't do it.
(2) In particular, DO NOT falsely claim to have a "formal partnership" with our office or with law-enforcement. It will get back to us.
(3) Finally, FYI, there is no such thing as a "District Attorney" in Michigan. Our equivalent is the County Prosecutor.

NEWS: We have obtained a court order to protect the residents at Arbor One Apartments—a 474-unit complex in Ypsilanti that has been violating health and safety laws since at least the fall of 2024.

The order provides:

✅Tenants have the option to break their lease and move out, and Arbor One must provide temporary shelter and/or moving assistance to any resident who wishes to do so.
✅ Any tenant who chooses to break their lease must be repaid any rent they paid (and their security deposit) from September 17, 2024, through the present.
✅ Tenants at Arbor One are NOT obligated to pay rent moving forward. Tenants need not pay rent until their apartment has a Certificate of Compliance with rental laws.
✅ Arbor One is prohibited from renting to new prospective tenants.
✅ Arbor One must urgently make necessary repairs.

Alongside the City of Ypsilanti, we filed a lawsuit against Arbor One in February in response to multiple violations of health, safety, and consumer protection laws. This is an interim order, and we will continue to litigate to ensure accountability.

Arbor One residents should be aware, however, that we cannot represent individual residents. Arbor One residents seeking legal assistance should contact Legal Services of South Central Michigan at 734-665-6181, ex. 3 and/or [email protected].

Residents may also fill out the following form to receive updates from Legal Services about legal proceedings: https://www.bit.ly/arbor-one-rights.
