Ann Arbor-Saline Area Pocket Forest Tour, June 16, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

Join on Tuesday for a tour of the Miyawaki-inspired mini-forests of our area, to learn from the experiences of the creators. Tour is put together by TreeTown Urban Forest Team at Pocketforests.org.

A representative of each forest will be on hand to introduce us to their project and answer questions. Note: this is not a garden tour (the forests are just getting started!), rather it’s a chance for forest-makers to share their experiences thus far. Join us at as many of the locations as your schedule allows. See this map of the route. Specific directions for locating the first three forests will be sent to registrants closer to the date.

Admission: Free, Register to reserve a spot.

June 20th, 2026 Agricole Farm Stop is hosting Agri-fest 2026, a downtown marketplace event to help fundraise for their community initiative, Our Neighbor's Basket.

This program has helped improve local food access in our community while ensuring our farmers are paid full price for their goods. Since December 2025, they have given out 66 baskets to date!

This lively street fair and marketplace will be held in Agricole’s ‘parking lot,’ aka the Jackson St. parking spaces on the north side of the building. There will be farm, food, and artisan vendors as well as kid-friendly activities and Quarantine Records spinning tunes 🎵

See the Trees and Sample the Forest!

Date/Time: June 13, 2026 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Registration Deadline: June 11, 2026 - 11:59 PM

Event location: West Scio Preserve, 317 Dino Dr, Ann Arbor, MI 48103

Brush up on your tree identification skills and forest forensics with this forest sampling session at West Scio Preserve. Ecologists Jacqueline Courteau and Anna Cone will lead participants through a review of key woody plants (trees, shrubs, and vines) and point out how to look for clues to land use history. Then we’ll work in groups to learn basic forest plot sampling techniques to describe and monitor forest species composition and predict successional trajectories. Be prepared to encounter ticks and mosquitoes and to walk off trail (wear long pants and close-toed shoes). Bring a water bottle and snack if needed.

This event will take place rain or shine, so please plan to dress for the weather.

This event is sponsored by the Michigan Conservation Stewards Program and the Michigan Naturalist Program. This program is open to all. Participants need not be an alumni of either program in order to participate.

Registration is $10/participant. Register by Thursday, June 11th. Pre-registration is REQUIRED.

Recently, WCCD staff Kim Williams-Guillén spoke on a panel for The Accredited Certifiers Association. The ACA strives to ensure consistent implementation of USDA Organic Regulations through collaboration and education of accredited certification agencies.
The session opened with a brief review of the challenges and opportunities uncovered through the work of Midwest Transition to Organic Partnership Program, setting the stage for an open discussion with organic farmers and inspectors representing a variety of farm types. Panelists shared firsthand experiences with certification and explored how certifiers and the broader organic community can better support small and transitioning producers, including through mentorship and reducing the burden of the certification process.
