Battering Intervention Services Coalition of Michigan

BISCMI History

BISC was formed in July of 1994 when the staff
of First Step's Violence Intervention Project (Canton, MI) met with the staff
of Catholic Social Service of Washtenaw County's
Alternatives to Domestic Aggression Program (Ann Arbor, MI)
to discuss issues of mutual interest and concern. BISC's membership grew rapidly, primarily with people who work with batterer intervention
services and battered women's services organizations.

Dr. Oliver J. Williams Needs A Kidney

You are invited to sit down with Dr. Oliver J. Williams, a man who has spent over 45 years as a pioneer and healer in the Domestic Violence Movement. You will hear Oliver speak about the “moment of clarity”, that transformative instant when a person recognizes the harm they’ve caused and chooses a path of change.

Throughout his career, Oliver has been a lifeline for survivors as well as those who have caused harm, a mentor to countless advocates and abuse intervention facilitators, a consultant to the White House and major sports leagues like the NFL and NBA, always seeking to heal not just individuals, but entire cultures and nations.

Despite his global impact, Oliver is now facing his own private battle with end-stage renal disease, spending four hours on a dialysis machine three times every week. Oliver speaks candidly about the “outright exhaustion” that follows these treatments, yet his spirit remains undeterred; he insists that he is “not finished with [his] work yet”. Oliver still has books to finish and a vision for a new network to support those seeking reform and healing. By watching this video, you will see the warmth and wisdom of a man who has given everything to his community and now finds himself profoundly moved by the global “call to action” from friends and colleagues who are rallying to help him find a living kidney donor.

We encourage you to watch this video to truly understand the man behind the legacy and then share this information widely with your own networks. Oliver’s “to-do list” for the future is filled with hope: he dreams of traveling to Spain, Italy, and Nigeria with his wife, Sonia, continuing to mentor his son, Sam, and one day holding his future “grand babies”.

You can help make this “new chapter” possible by visiting mhealth.donorscreen.org and mentioning Dr. Oliver J. Williams during your screening process.
