Even as the school year comes to a close, we wanted to highlight an incredible project led by our Angell Elementary 2nd graders in Kris Hepner and Abbie Stull’s classrooms. As part of their economics unit, students created and sold their own products at a school-wide market in February, raising a record-breaking $1,026.
Students used the money to purchase supplies and assemble nearly 250 lunches for Food Gatherers’ Lunches of Love program. The lunches were picked up on Monday and will help support members of our community in need.

Today marks the final day of the 2025–26 school year, and at Lawton Elementary, the community came together for a special clap-out honoring two groups embarking on exciting new chapters.
Retirees and fifth graders were celebrated for their contributions to the Lawton community.
Congratulations to all AAPS retirees on your well-earned retirement and best wishes to fifth graders as you begin your middle school journey!

As we wrap up the school year today, we’re pleased to share our final Exceptional Staff profile—featuring Wines third grade teacher Jessica Rodriguez.
A proud Ann Arbor “townie,” Jessica’s path to teaching wasn’t a straight line—but it’s one that has made her the thoughtful, dedicated educator she is today. From supporting young readers through AmeriCorps in Seattle to building a classroom rooted in structure, care, and high expectations at Wines, Jessica Rodriguez brings both heart and purpose to her work each day.
Principal David DeYoung describes her as “one of the most organized and systematic teachers” he’s worked with, creating a classroom where students quickly feel confident, supported, and ready to learn. Above all, he notes, she’s a tireless advocate for her students—someone who holds them accountable while always having their backs. https://tinyurl.com/mr8eussn
