Celebrate Washtenaw County history and roast chestnuts by the fire at this year’s Firelight Pioneer Evening at Parker Mill!

Sunday, November 8, we’re having an old-time harvest party around a crackling campfire. We will roast fall treats, share stories, and play in the historic log cabin. Learn about how families of the past prepared for winter. Demonstrations will include apple and chestnut roasting and open fire popcorn popping. This free event runs from 3:30pm-6:30pm at the log cabin. No registration necessary!

Make a difference for the birds, bees, and bugs. Volunteer this Saturday!

Care for the land you live beside in a friendly community setting. This Saturday, October 17, enjoy the warmth of community and warming exercise using loppers and saws to demolish invasive shrubs or your hands to pull invasive plants. Our work together makes a difference for birds, bees, and butterflies, while also beautifying Britton Woods and opening up views.

This event will be 🔥… Prescribed Fire Festival is scheduled for October 25!

Prescribed fires, also called “controlled burns” are used to maintain biodiversity and resilience in forests, prairies, and wetlands. Prescribed fires can also be a tool in ecosystem restoration to revitalize native plantings and reduce invasive species cover. Because of the benefits of prescribed fires to our ecosystem, we think there’s reason to celebrate!

Women’s Nature Camp 2026 was a HIT!

Thank you to all who joined us for campfire snacks and stories, nature mandalas making, and adventures at Independence Lake.
