Today, County Administration, the Washtenaw County Resiliency Office, the Washtenaw County Health Department, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners, and our Facilities Team joined together to celebrate a major investment in our sustainable future: the new solar array at our Towner Campus in Ypsilanti!

The installation is part of a nearly one-megawatt solar project spanning seven County facilities. Since the first array became operational last August, the project has already:
āš”Generated 176.12 megawatt hours of renewable electricity
šŸ’µ Saved the County more than $45,000 in energy costs
šŸŒ± Avoided 136.2 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions- the equivalent of more than 15,000 gallons of gasoline consumed!

The long-term benefits are even more powerful. Over the life of the project, Washtenaw County anticipates nearly $31 million in energy savings and 26,000 metric tons of avoided emissions. This is what thoughtful public investment looks like: lowering costs, protecting our environment, and building healthier communities for generations to come.
