Good morning Westminster!! Remember to stay weather aware this weekend. According to National Weather Service, an active weather pattern is expected to bring multiple rounds of strong to severe storms starting Saturday night and continuing through early next week.

What to expect:
• Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms
• Potential for damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall
• Localized flooding possible with repeated storms

Reminders:
• Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings (phone alerts, radio, etc.)
• Avoid driving through flooded roadways! “Turn Around, Don’t Drown”
• Secure outdoor items that could become projectiles in strong winds
• Review your family’s emergency plan

Our department will be monitoring conditions closely and is ready to respond as needed. Stay alert, stay prepared, and keep an eye on the forecast as conditions can change quickly.

We’ll continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. Stay safe!!

We’re proud to officially announce the addition of our newest asset to the fleet!! TANKER 761

With the increasing number of grass fires and hay bale fires in our area, the need for a reliable, high capacity water supply has never been greater. This purchase wasn’t just an upgrade, it was a necessity to better protect our community, our farmers, and our firefighters.

While we do have a TENDER handling water supply on the ground, this new addition allows us to hit fires hard from the sky, giving us faster response, better reach, and a stronger initial attack when it matters most.

TANKER 761 will play a critical role in operations where water supply is limited, helping us slow the spread and protect what matters most.

This is a big step forward for our department and a direct investment into the safety of the community we serve.

As always, we appreciate the continued support from our residents, we couldn’t do this without you all!! Happy April fools from Westminster Fire Department 😂❤️

It has been a BUSY week for our Westminster firefighters.

On Sunday, our crews responded to a fully involved structure fire in Whitewright. Early Wednesday morning around 2 AM, we were called to another structure fire in Whitewright. All occupants in both homes were able to make it out safely with no injuries.

Last night, our department also responded to a Major Vehicle Accident on FM 2862 that required extrication. Four occupants were transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

We’re proud of the hard work our members put in this week and grateful for the teamwork between surrounding departments that help keep our communities safe.

This past weekend our department had the opportunity to provide standby coverage for our FIRST endurance race at G2 Motorsports Park, hosted by ChampCar Endurance Series

Our crews were on site for fire suppression and extrication, ensuring we were ready to respond immediately if needed. We were also glad to work alongside AMR Collin County EMS, who provided medical coverage for the event.

It was an exciting experience to be part of such a well organized race weekend. The teamwork displayed by the drivers, pit crews, race officials, and event staff was impressive, and we enjoyed getting to meet so many of the racers and hosts throughout the event!!

We want to update everyone on the smoke you may have seen in the area of County Road 429. Since around 4:00 PM, our department along with multiple neighboring agencies have been working a large hay bale fire in that area.

Thanks to a quick response and strong mutual aid effort, the fire was brought under control in a short amount of time. However, hay bales create a significant fuel load and tend to burn deep and slow. Because of that, this fire will likely continue to smolder and burn for the next couple of days, which means you can expect to see smoke in the area.

Please know that our crews on shift will be making regular stops throughout the night and over the coming days to monitor the scene and ensure it remains fully contained. We will continue to keep a close eye on it to protect surrounding property and prevent any rekindling

As always, we appreciate the support and understanding from our community. If you see something that concerns you, don’t hesitate to call.

Yesterday, crews spent time conducting vehicle extrication training using a couple donated vehicles. While we hope no one in our community ever needs this service, we train regularly to make sure we are fully prepared when it’ll matter the most.

Vehicle extrication becomes necessary when someone is trapped inside a vehicle following a crash. This can happen during major front, rear, or side impact collisions, rollovers, or when severe damage prevents doors from opening. In some crashes, dashboards, steering columns, or other parts of the vehicle can collapse inward, trapping occupants and requiring specialized tools and coordinated teamwork to safely remove them.

Modern vehicles are built stronger than ever, which increases survivability, but it also means rescue techniques must continually evolve. Firefighters practice stabilizing vehicles to prevent movement, removing doors or roofs when necessary, and carefully creating space to safely free trapped patients while working side by side with EMS to provide medical care throughout the process.
