NVCT and Defensores de la Cuenca made waves at our annual Kayak Cleanup! 🌎🚣‍♀️

With support from Porto Vecchio and NVCT volunteers, students took to the water to help remove trash while also learning why removing trash from our Hunting Creek Preserve and surrounding waters ultimately helps keep the Potomac River clean!

We were honored to partner with Defensores de la Cuenca for this meaningful event and to use our preserve as a space for connection, education, and community. Experiences like these help bring young people closer to nature, especially those who may not always have the opportunity to engage with it in this way.

By creating access to the outdoors and empowering others to be good land stewards, we continue our mission to protect land and ensure everyone can experience the mental and physical health benefits that nature provides. 💚

NVCT had an eventful and inspiring experience at the Virginia's United Land Trusts Conservation and Greenways Conference in Newport News last week.

Whether we were leading the charge on innovative ways to achieve conservation or forming lasting connections with others who represent the future of land preservation, NVCT staff were represented at all levels of this work.

We’re back and invigorated to continue working hard to protect land for all of Northern Virginia!

🎉 River Farm is officially Protected FOREVER under a NVCT conservation easement! 🎊

Last Friday, friends and supporters of River Farm gathered together to commemorate the finalization of the land protection agreement with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

River Farm will now and forever be open to the public and will never be anything other than a hub for horticultural education, connection with nature, and preserved land vital to the Potomac River.

What was once uncertain is now secured through a permanent conservation easement, thanks to years of advocacy, partnership, and community voices coming together to protect something special!

This milestone underscores the importance of protecting places like River Farm, which are central to the region’s identity, ecology, and history. For NVCT, River Farm is a reminder of why conserving special places across the Potomac Region matters so deeply.

🌎 Happy Earth Day!

NVCT kicked off our Earth Day festivities early this year by hosting a Terborgh Terrace Garden Workday with Nestlé yesterday as part of Nestlé's initiative, which supports organizations that make communities good places to live.

Together with Arlington Friends of Urban Agriculture and Earth Sangha, this workday showed how even small urban green spaces can support healthier, more connected communities. In Northern Virginia, every patch of green counts 🌿 Protecting the planet starts with the spaces close to home 💚. Thanks to everyone who was part of this effort!
