Peak strawberry season calls for a trip to the farm! 🍓 At the end of May, NPAC families gathered at Miller Farms Market in Locust Grove, VA, with Children's Home Society of Virginia for a morning of produce picking, exploration, and community.

Families wandered the fields together, filling their baskets with the sweetest strawberries of the season and taking in everything the farm had to offer, including a fun sand mound. After a morning outdoors, everyone gathered for Jersey Mike's box lunches, lemonade, and scoops of ice cream from the farm store.

It was a morning of fresh air, good food, and memories that families will be talking about all summer. 🌞

This opportunity was provided free of charge to families in our service region thanks to our partnership with the Virginia Department of Social Services.

We are excited to announce our summer NTDC parent cohort starting in June 2026! This will be a wonderful, supportive group of adoptive parents and kinship caregivers. The summer 2026 cohort will be open to all adoptive and kinship families in the Northern region of Virginia and the state of Maryland, thanks to generous grant support from the The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) and the Department of Human Services (MD-DHS). The group will run for 7 consecutive weeks on Tuesdays, starting June 16, from 12:00-1:30 p.m.

The National Training and Development Curriculum, or NTDC, is a robust curriculum developed by the Center for Adoption Support and Education and several nationwide partners to meet a wide range of needs faced by kinship, foster, and adoptive families.

The group will cover the following themes:
→ Child Development
→ Attachment
→ Separation, Grief, and Loss
→ Trauma-Related Behaviors
→ Trauma-Informed Parenting
→ Effective Communication

While the topics will be the same as previous cohorts of the NTDC curriculum, the discussion may be very different! Each session will feature materials created for adoptive families and will include time for reflection and discussion. This cohort will be led by C.A.S.E. Case Manager (Maryland) Nohora McNally, and C.A.S.E. Wendy’s Wonder Kids Recruiter Holly Nichols.

NTDC is a dynamic curriculum with something for everyone – join this group to meet other adoptive and kinship families and expand your parenting toolkit!

The Center for Adoption Support and Education and NPAC team was proud to attend the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board's Mental Health Awareness Event on May 9 at Clemyjontri Park! Sharing mental health resources and promoting community connection are at the heart of what we do, and that's exactly what this event was all about. NPAC offers FREE post-adoption and post-permanency support to adoptive and kinship families in the Northern Region of Virginia, including connecting families to adoption-competent mental health care.

Thank you to the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board for having us!

Stay tuned for more events where you can find our team in the community.

Earlier this month, our NPAC program and Center for Adoption Support and Education's School-Based Mental Health Professionals Training joined families, educators, and community organizations at the Fairfax County Public Schools Special Education Family Conference, "Stronger Together: Connecting Families and Schools." We enjoyed connecting with attendees in the exhibitor hall and sharing resources with the community. 💚

Thank you to FCPS and the organizers for a thoughtful, welcoming event!
