Clearwater River Watershed District

Clearwater River Watershed District Promoting, protecting, and preserving the water resources within the Clearwater River Watershed in c There is around 8,626 acres of open water in the District.

The CRWD was formed by residents to address the declining water quality in area lakes and streams, specifically the Clearwater Chain of Lakes. It's scope has grown into a complete program of water management within its boundaries (see: http://www.crwd.org/background_beginnings.html). Established in 1975 under MN Statues 103D, the CRWD covers ~159 square miles that drain into the Mississippi River

via the Clearwater River. The Clearwater River is approximately 39 miles in length, with its headwaters located in Meeker County. The river begins at an elevation of 1,160 feet, and empties into the Mississippi River at 940 feet. The watershed encompasses various land uses, with the western part being predominately agricultural, and transitioning to more mixed uses (forested, urban, agricultural) in the eastern portion. The largest land use is agricultural.

As of 10am today, 8/8/2024, the elevation at Grass Lake Dam was 992.19. CRWD staff closed the low gate on the Pleasant Lake outlet in accordance with the DNR operations permit for the Pleasant Lake Low Gate Outlet. "Rain, rain, go away come again another day"....or maybe "rain, rain, we've had our fill, I will die upon that hill". Please feel free to make up your own version. High water all around. Cedar, Pleasant and Clearwater all have Sheriff-enforced no wake zones. This may not be a full list. In high water, it's best to assume there is a 300' from shore no wake zone in any lake you visit.

Let's hold on to our docks friends: Precipitation at the NWS Station in St. Cloud shows we've received close to 5 inches of precipitation in the first half of June (1-16th). The "normal" precipitation for June at that station is 4.17 inches. Forecasts predict more rain in the coming week. As of 9am the lake level came up about 0.1" after falling late last week. We expect it to rise.
