Thanks to Len Shindel for all his work to teach us about this struggle in Garrett County

One hundred eighty-seven inches of snow fell on Garrett County, Maryland’s westernmost county, during the winter of 1969-1970. So it should be noted that, when they decided to strike against the county that employed them, the men who plowed all that snow waited for spring to walk off the job.

Today is the 50th Anniversary of the first Earth Day celebration. As you comply with the
Governor's stay-at-home order, we hope you take the time to watch the 1970 coverage
of the Earth Day celebration hosted by Walter Kronkite.
It shows we have made progress at the same time we face persisting challenges
to saving our planet.
BTW-- NASA is reporting we are on track for 2020 to be the warmest year on record.

We miss our Friday gatherings and hope we can meet together soon. In the meantime
stay safe, be well and find ways to engage in positive actions to create a "new"
normal which values all human life and moves toward healing our planet.

Morning meetings of the club are suspended during the Covid-19 lockdown. Watch this space for a return to regularly scheduled meetings.

03/15/2020

We have cancelled the March 20th and 27th meetings.
We hope to resume our gathering on April 3, topic: Candidates for District 6 Board of Education with Erin Lorenz, Joanna Tobin, India Ochs, Scott Schaffer and Bradley O'Neal.

These are challenging times.
From the poem Pandemic by Jim Leanos:

"Know that our lives
are in in one another's hands.
Do not reach out your hand,
Reach out with your heart,
Reach our with your words.
Reach out all the tendrils
Of compassion that move, invisibly,
where we cannot touch.
Promise this world your love-
For better or for worse
in sickness and in health,
so long as we all shall live."
