On April 2nd, 2026, the Southern Iron County Fire Protection District graciously accepted a donation from the Specialty Granules LLC (SGI) Annapolis Plant. Thanks to SGI’s generosity and continued commitment to community building, South Iron Fire was able to purchase new radio equipment to help outfit volunteers with handheld radios and four mobile radios.
The volunteer firefighters rely on handheld radios while responding to and working active fire scenes. This ensures proper communication with all firefighters and aids in firefighter safety. The mobile radios will be used to equip both firehouses with new base station radios and equip department vehicles. One mobile radio will be installed in the newly acquired utv that will soon be in service. South Iron Fire expects this utv to be able to better assist with high priority rural calls for service while ensuring proper communication can be achieved.
The generosity and continued support SGI has given to the community of Southern Iron County has always been unmistakable. SGI has helped our department in many ways and for that we will always be so grateful. This generosity is what helps our department continue to serve the citizens of Southern Iron County.
