The Anne Arundel County Commission on Disability Issues promotes and enhances the quality of life for persons with disabilities. We advise the County Executive and the County Council on the coordination and development of government policies, programs, services,and the allocation of resources for persons with disabilities, and we propose the means to meet the needs of persons with disabilities. May 30th, 2026 is World Multiple Sclerosis Day

Multiple sclerosis (MS) affects about 2.9 million people worldwide, damaging nerve cells and causing symptoms like blurred vision, weakness, and fatigue. Although there is no cure, treatments exist to slow disease progression. World MS Day aims to raise awareness, build support networks, and improve access to diagnosis and care.

Today is the 15th anniversary of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), highlighting the inclusion of over 1 billion people with disabilities. GAAD's mission is to raise awareness and promote an inclusive environment for all abilities. Today, we encourage advocacy for digital access, empowering individuals with disabilities to engage independently with digital content and applications.

April 29th, 2026 is International Guide dog Day!

International Guide Dog Day recognizes the essential role of guide dogs for those who are blind or have low vision.

Guide dogs aid in navigation, safety, daily tasks, and offer emotional support. This day raises awareness and appreciation for both guide dogs and their trainers, highlighting their importance to owners and families.

Join us at Lake Waterford Park’s Blue Jay Pavilion and playground on May 3rd from 11:00am-2:00pm for interactive play, entertainers, face painting, Autism Resource Fair, food truck, Bocce and Co****le, parachute play, playground and more! A Call to Artists
2026 Nina De Angelo Artists Without Limits Exhibit, sponsored by Anne Arundel County's Department of Aging and Disabilities, The Commission on Disability Issues, and the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County.

This year’s theme, “Art Beyond Barriers,” highlights the importance of creating accessible spaces where artists with disabilities can share their creativity and limitless perspectives. Submissions accepted from April 2, 2026 to June 8, 2026. Artists may submit up to 3 artworks for consideration.

To apply, submit an application online at: https://conta.cc/4cOvdSl. To apply by mail or to get more information, please call 410-222-4383. All accepted artworks will be featured in the in-person art exhibit in July 2026 in Annapolis, MD.
