Rescue Well - Anne Arundel County is a volunteer-run program managed by Amanda Mangum under ReLove Animals, Inc, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
- We offer rehoming assistance to owners under our Well Placed Pet Program by listing their pets on our Adoption sites and screening potential adopters for them to ensure their pets end up in a safe and well matched home. This also keeps them out o
f already over crowded shelters. Free is not bad. NOT screening is!
- Our local community well/food pantry is in Glen Burnie. We offer short term relief for pet owners who are unable to provide basic necessities for their pets. Food, supplies and vetting are provided through our fabulous donors, our partners, or out of pocket.
- We do not force people to do anything, ever. Rather, we provide owners with info and resources to make their own decisions. We believe this enables authentic, lasting change, and we've already seen proof of this in some of the most unlikely communities in Baltimore.
- We believe in giving hand-UPS, not hand-outs. We help owners reach the "next step"; we don't support owners who have chronic needs or who intend to breed dogs/cats.
- We are NOT a rescue. We do NOT have a foster network and we do not believe in warehousing or hoarding animals. Our small circle of experienced and trained fosters help with emergency short term fostering, usually for a few nights to a couple weeks.
- We are 100% volunteer-run. We do not collect salaries of any sort or receive funds in exchange for the work we do.
- We run a Confidential Hotline that receives about 600 calls per month. We receive dog-in-danger tips, dog fighting tips and we get information from folks on both sides of the law. We never turn a blind eye on abuse. Ever.
- As much as possible, we help people connect to resources if they themselves are homeless, abused, or otherwise in-need. We receive hotline calls from local Veterans Associations, social workers, domestic violence and homeless prevention centers. To help manage the volume of these critical cases, we enlist the help of our own volunteer Case Managers.
-We support reputable rescue groups and local shelters. Rescue Well is already most proud of our partnership with BARCS, Maryland's largest open admission shelter and rescue. By expanding to Anne Arundel County we work closely and support Anne Arundel County Animal Control and Anne Arundel County SPCA in Annapolis.
- We have trained volunteers ready and willing to help with transports of pets. Often times this is to assist with owners who do not have transportation and their pets need to be seen by a vet.
- Sadly, we cannot save every dog or cat. We take an average of 20 Hotline calls per day, we receive about 100 Final Pleas from local shelters, and we receive about 20 emails per day from folks looking to surrender pets, and they often want to surrender them the same day.
- You may see posts by us for dogs or cats that are shelter-bound. These are courtesy posts for owners, or they are animals that we've offered temporary foster for as a last resort. There is simply not enough space for every single animal.
- We are a no-nonsense, no-drama group. If you want to gossip, back-stab, or sabotage: this is not the group for you. We believe in strength by coming together, not working against each other.
