We encourage residents of Annapolis to apply for membership on the Human Relations commission. The commission doesn't currently have a quorum and can't process complaints. The city's civil service board also has vacancies and upcoming vacancies that need to be filled.

The Supreme Court directed a lower court Monday to reconsider a voting map in Alabama that would eliminate a majority-Black congressional district, leaving just one other district where Black residents make up the majority.

The NAACP slammed the Court’s decision, calling it “a return to Jim Crow.”

In her dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor said the lower court “could still find that Alabama had intentionally discriminated against Black voters in violation of the 14th Amendment,” according to ABC News.

Black voters in Alabama have spent years in court fighting for a second congressional district where they’d have a voice.
