⚓ NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH | WEEK 4

🇺🇸 Annapolis Stand Ready: Know Your Plan

You've checked the weather. You've talked with your family. You've checked on your neighbors.

Now it's time to put it all together.

A good emergency plan should answer three simple questions:

📍 WHERE will you go?
Know your evacuation routes and a safe place to go if you need to leave.

📱 HOW will you communicate?
Have a family communication plan and know where you'll get reliable information.

🎒 WHAT will you need?
Keep an emergency kit with water, food, medications, flashlights, batteries, important documents and other essentials.

For those of us who live and work around Annapolis, preparedness isn't just about protecting ourselves. It's about protecting our families, our neighbors and the community we call home.

September may be National Preparedness Month, but being ready is a year-round mission.

NSA Annapolis will conduct an installation-wide test of the Giant Voice mass warning system tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15, at 9:40 a.m.

🔊 Both outdoor and indoor speaker systems will be used during the test.

The announcement will clearly state that this is only a test. No action is required.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we test our emergency notification capabilities.

🇺🇸 Annapolis Stand Ready: Know Your Shipmates

Preparedness doesn't stop at your front door.

In a community like Annapolis, we're surrounded by people who may need a little extra help when things go wrong. An elderly neighbor, a family with young children, someone with access or functional needs, or a neighbor who simply doesn't know where to start.

You don't have to be a first responder to make a difference.

⚓ Check on a neighbor.
📦 Help someone build an emergency kit.
📱 Share reliable emergency information.
🤝 Know who in your community may need extra assistance.
❤️ Be willing to lend a hand when your community needs it.

The strength of Annapolis isn't just our buildings, our institutions or our waterfront.

It's our people.

🚲 SAILORS ON CYCLES

Having a reliable way to get around can make a big difference for Sailors living in the barracks, especially when you don't have a personal vehicle.

Meet HN Tarr, a Hospital Corpsman at Naval Health Clinic Annapolis and a barracks resident who uses an e-bike provided through NSA Annapolis MWR's Single Sailor Program.

“Having an e-bike means convenience and having access to things I wouldn’t otherwise have access to without a car.”

For HN Tarr, the e-bike makes her commute to Naval Health Clinic Annapolis just 4 minutes, compared to a 15–20 minute walk from the barracks.

Before having access to the e-bike, she walked everywhere, including places that were sometimes too far to reach conveniently.

Now, she uses her e-bike to get around, enjoy the breeze, make a quick trip to the Commissary, or grab lunch during her break.

And safety comes along for the ride. MWR provides personal protective equipment (PPE) for Sailors using the program.

HN Tarr's advice to other Sailors?

“Utilize the barracks bikes. Don't be scared to ask to use them. The barracks are always helpful.”

The e-bikes are available to eligible Sailors through NSA Annapolis MWR's Single Sailor Program, providing an additional transportation option for those living in the barracks.

For a Sailor without a car, an e-bike isn't just a fun way to get around.

It's freedom. It's independence. It's a way to get where you need to go. 🚲⚓

🇺🇸 Annapolis Stand Ready: Know Your Crew

Around NSA Annapolis, we're used to thinking about our crew. The same should be true at home.

Military families know schedules can change, duty calls can come unexpectedly, and sometimes one person may have to handle things on their own.

So this week, get your household on the same page.

📍 Where will you meet if you're separated?
📱 How will you communicate if phones aren't working?
🏠 Where will you go if you need to leave your home?
🐕 Who will take care of your pets?
💊 Do you have medications and essential supplies ready?
📄 Does everyone know where important documents are?

Whether you're stationed here, work on the Yard, or call Annapolis home, having a family plan means you're ready when your family needs you most.

🌊 NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH | WEEK 1

🇺🇸 Annapolis Stand Ready: Know Your Waters

Living in Annapolis means we know how much we depend on the water and how quickly conditions can change.

From hurricanes and tropical storms to coastal flooding, high winds and severe thunderstorms, weather can impact the Chesapeake region with little notice.

This week, take a few minutes to prepare for the hazards that can affect our community:

🌧️ Know your flood risk
📱 Sign up for local emergency alerts
🌊 Know where to find information about severe weather and flooding
🔋 Keep flashlights, batteries and backup power ready
🏠 Know where you'll go if you need to leave home

And remember: don't drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don't drown.

Preparedness starts with knowing what could happen and having a plan for it.

Annapolis knows the water. Let's make sure we're ready for it, too.

🏃 Annapolis 10-Miler: Traffic Impacts — Sunday, Aug. 30

The 51st annual Annapolis 10-Miler will bring approximately 3,500 runners to the area Sunday morning. Expect traffic impacts around USNA and NSA Annapolis from approximately 7–9:30 a.m.

🚧 Gate 1: Metered vehicle traffic from 7:15–8 a.m. Normal weekend operations resume at 8 a.m.
🚧 Gate 8/Naval Academy Bridge: Closed to vehicles, except emergency response, from 7:15–9:30 a.m.
🚧 North Severn: Traffic restrictions and closures on portions of Route 648 from approximately 7:30–8:45 a.m.

Pedestrian access will not be affected.

Gate 1 access before 8 a.m.: Drivers should use MD-2 South → MD-665 East → Bay Ridge Ave → Sixth St. Follow police directions. Only credentialed drivers will be permitted to proceed toward USNA Gate 1.
