Last week, the House passed a comprehensive package of child care bills and we broke down HB 849 for you. Today, we’re highlighting two more bills in this important package for Maryland families:

📍HB 1321 lowers and caps out of pocket costs for families.
📍HB 561 invests in building a quality child care workforce.

Together, these bills address our affordability, accountability, and opportunity agenda by making access to safe, reliable, and affordable child care within reach for more families.

The House just passed a bipartisan plan to bring down energy costs for Marylanders.

This legislation will:
✅ Deliver at least $150 in yearly savings
✅ Hold utilities and data centers accountable
✅ Incentivize new energy generation
✅ Keep Maryland moving toward clean energy goals

Because every dollar saved on utilities is a dollar families can spend on what matters most to them.

We're proud to pass HB 486, with bipartisan support, establishing "Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day" in Maryland schools.

Six-year-old Ruby Bridges - who integrated an all-white elementary school in New Orleans in 1960 - showed extraordinary bravery in the face of hate.

Recognizing her remarkable journey is about teaching our students courage, resilience, and the power of standing up for what's right.

When large-scale detention centers are proposed in rural communities, it’s not just the detainees who are affected — it’s local taxpayers, first responders, hospitals, and infrastructure.

Our communities shouldn’t be forced to absorb the strain on police services, emergency rooms, water systems, and roads.

That's why this week Maryland House Democrats passed HB 1018, strengthening oversight of detention facilities statewide. Because protecting Maryland means protecting the people inside these facilities — and the communities that surround them.

Chemotherapy-induced hair loss is more than a side effect — it can deeply impact a patient’s emotional well-being, self-image, and sense of control during an already difficult fight.

Today, the House passed a bipartisan bill requiring insurance coverage for scalp cooling during chemotherapy, helping cancer patients preserve their hair and dignity during treatment.

The bill passed 129–7.
