Public service isn’t always visible, but it’s always felt.
At the Register of Wills for Anne Arundel County, putting people first isn’t just something we say, it’s something we do every single day. And sometimes, that service reaches far beyond our county lines.
Last June, our Register, Jasmine M. Jackson, launched a Safekeeping Project focused on reviewing and removing outdated Wills from our vault, specifically those belonging to individuals who are no longer Anne Arundel County residents or whose documents are more than 30 years old.
Since then:
• 462 Prior Wills tied to previously opened estates in other jurisdictions have been identified and removed from safekeeping (June 2025–present)
• 894 letters have been mailed (August 2025–March 5, 2026) to individuals who have moved out of Maryland or have decades-old Wills on file
The response has been a reminder of why this work matters. One former resident, now living in Delaware, shared:
“Thank you Jasmine, what a tremendous service this is!”
That’s what public service looks like.
