Our Mission: The Annapolis Fire Department (AFD) exists to provide a safe environment for the community by minimizing the impact of fire and injury through public education, quality service, emergency preparedness, and an overall culture of safety. The Annapolis Fire Department is responsible for emergency medical services, fire suppression, rescue activities, and mitigation of disasters. The depa

rtment operates from 4 stations with 3 Engine companies, 2 Truck companies, 1 Rescue Squad, 4 Advance Life Support (ALS) medical units, a duty Battalion Chief, and an EMS Supervisor. The Special Operations Division is responsible for the specialty teams within the Operations Section and includes:
Bike Medics
Bomb Squad Services
Dive Team
Fire Investigations
Hazardous Materials
Marine Rescue/Firefighting
Tactical Medics
Technical Rope Rescue
Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)
These teams are all collateral duties of personnel assigned to the 4 stations. The Fire Marshal's Office
Fire and Explosives Services Unit provides the staff and equipment for bomb squad activities. The personnel assigned to the Operations Section routinely conduct fire/safety inspections of commercial properties and marinas. We participate in public education programs and will conduct home fire safety and smoke alarm checks on request.

In Honor of Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

We pause to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy because of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom each and every day, who gave everything in defense of our nation.

We also extend our gratitude to all veterans, active-duty military members, first responders, and their families for their continued commitment and sacrifice.

All gave some, but some gave all - Thank you, today and always!

Last week, our crews responded to a medical emergency for a young boy who was injured.

This week, he stopped by to say THANK YOU to the crew who helped him. We appreciate you stopping by and making our day!

We enjoyed laughs and smiles! We may see a future firefighter in the making!

Today begins EMS Week, May 17-23! ๐Ÿš‘

This week is recognized since President Gerald Ford authorized it in 1974 to celebrate Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionals and the work they do in the communities nationwide.

Today, we recognize the Health, Wellness, and Resilience of our providers. Our clinician sometimes sees the worst incidents. Our mental, emotional, and physical health is very important to continue resilience in what we do for others.

If you have a loved one or a friend in EMS, or you see them on the street, give them a thank you and a smile for all they do, and it can be the difference if they're having a long, rough day.

We want to thank all of our EMS clinicians, who provide the best care to the residents and visitors we encounter here in The City Of Annapolis and the surrounding areas.

We wish all moms a very Happy Mother's Day!

Thank you for the love, patience, support, and countless sacrifices you make every day โ€” often without recognition. Behind every firefighter is usually a strong mom who taught them how to care for others before themselves.

To our Annapolis Fire moms working today, we salute you and appreciate your dedicated service!

๐Ÿš‘ Today, we begin our Prehospital Whole Blood Program ๐Ÿš‘

When someone has serious life-threatening injuries due to trauma or medical emergencies (e.g., gastrointestinal hemorrhage, uncontrolled post-partum bleed), getting blood quickly can mean the difference between life and death.

As the 9th ground-based agency in Maryland, we have partnered with Inova Blood Donor Services to receive Low-Titer O Positive (LTO+) blood. Whole blood, which is rich in red blood cells that carry oxygen, is what the body rapidly loses during severe trauma.

Prehospital whole blood has been clinically proven to drastically improve the outcomes of patients experiencing hemorrhagic shock. When every second counts, our clinicians will now be able to provide this life-saving intervention at the scene, improving their chances of survival.

Special thanks to Mayor Littmann and the Council members, along with our partners, who helped train our personnel:
Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services
Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS of Maryland
QinFlow Fluid Warmers
LifeFlow Blood Infusers
Maryland State Police - Aviation Command
