⛈️ Summer Storm Season Curbside Yard Waste Reminders ⛈️

We hope everyone made it through this weekend’s storms safely. We know the recent severe storms left a lot of debris in our yards. The peak of summer storm season is upon us, more thunderstorms are predicted in the upcoming days, and we want to help you clear out any potential yard debris safely and efficiently!

Please remember the yard waste golden rule: bin it, bag it, bundle it!

To ensure our curbside crews can collect your yard waste safely, please follow these curbside yard waste guidelines:

✅Bin it, bag it, bundle it!
• Containers: Use paper yard waste bags or reusable containers made of metal or rigid plastic marked with a large “X” on all sides.
• Weight Limit: Bags, containers, and bundles should not exceed 40 pounds.
• Branches & Limbs: Tie small branches/limbs in bundles with twine or place them in marked reusable containers.
➜Size check: Branches must be under 4 feet long and less than 4 inches thick.
•Mulch: Mulch is only accepted curbside if placed in a reusable container marked with a large “X” on all sides. Mulch is NOT accepted in paper yard waste bags.

❌ Not accepted for curbside yard waste
To prevent missed curbside collections, double check that these items don’t make it to the curb:
•Tree stumps
•Bamboo
•Lumber, treated wood, pallets, or gumballs
•Sawdust, dirt, or sod
•Food waste
•Flower pots or trays
•Yard waste in cardboard boxes

Got storm debris or large yard waste?
Our County Recycling Centers are a great resource for dropping off yard waste materials directly, year-round! Larger yard waste items must be self-hauled to a County Recycling Center. This includes:
•Tree stumps and logs
•Fallen trees and large tree limbs (larger than 4 feet long and 4 inches thick)
Additionally, broken fencing is accepted for trash disposal at all County Recycling Centers.
The Bureau of Waste Management Services facilities are open Monday through Saturday, 8 AM to 4 PM.

Curbside Collection Update for Friday, July 3, 2026: Yard waste collections for Friday customers was suspended as of 9 AM this morning. The private composting facility where collected yard waste was to be delivered to closed unexpectedly. Yard waste collections for Friday customers will be completed next week. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for the inconvenience.

Phew, Anne Arundel County, it is a scorcher outside! As the temperatures rise, we hope that everyone is staying safe and cool whether you are chilling in the AC, cooling off at the pool, finding shade, please stay hydrated.
While beating the heat, remember to recycle right, even during pool days!

💧Stay hydrated: Place empty plastic water bottles, metal soda and sparkling water cans, and glass bottles into your yellow recycling cart.

☀️Remember your sunscreen: Empty aerosol sunscreen cans and plastic sunscreen bottles are accepted for curbside recycling. If your sunscreen is in a soft squeeze tube, toss it in your regular household trash once you are done with it.

🦩 If your pool inflatable or lounger sprung a leak, please place it your regular household trash. Flexible plastic pool toys, tubes, and loungers are NOT accepted for recycling.

🩱 Don’t place your unwanted bathing suits, and summer clothes in your recycling cart, bring them to a County Recycling Center for textile recycling. Place unwanted clothes, bathing suits, and even flip flops in a bag and place them in the textile collection bins. Check out the comments for more information on our County Recycling Centers.

Happy (early) Independence Day, Anne Arundel County!

Whether you are celebrating at home or gathering with friends and family, handle your holiday cleanup like a pro by keeping our recycling carts and collection trucks safe from any unexpected sparks or firework encores.

Both USED and UNUSED fireworks (yes, even sparklers!) are a fire risk and cannot go into your curbside trash bins, yard waste bags or containers, or yellow recycling cart.

Here's how to safely get rid of your USED fireworks:

1. Soak - Completely submerge USED fireworks in a bucket of water, and allow them to soak overnight.

2. Wrap - Double wrap soaked USED fireworks in plastic wrap or plastic bags so they do not dry out.

3. Dispose - Drop-off wrapped bags of USED fireworks at any Recycling Center or the Millersville Landfill for trash disposal.

Got UNUSED fireworks? Please call the Anne Arundel County Fire Marshal’s Office at (410) 222-7884, Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 4 PM, for assistance.

Curbside collection of recycling, yard waste, and trash will not be affected by the holiday. Normal Friday collections will occur on July 3rd. All Waste Management Services facilities will be closed on Friday, July 3rd, and Saturday, July 4th. All facilities will reopen on Monday, July 6th.

Today is the big game, Team USA is in the World Cup knockout rounds! It is time for us to bring our best defense on the field, and at home for our yellow recycling carts. Save landfill space by ensuring you recycle everything our program allows from your watch party!

When the game gets intense, remember to be a team player:

⚽Don’t let aluminum cans sit on the bench at the Landfill, they are 100% recyclable once they are empty!

⚽Prevent a red card by keeping stretchy and crinkly plastic out of your recycling cart. Items like chip bags, candy wrappers, plastic bags, and plastic film are all trash items. Pro tip: Dry and clean plastic bags, film, and wrap can be recycled at your favorite County Recycling Center.

⚽Score big by placing cardboard boxes, plastic bottles and containers, and food and beverage glass bottles and jars in your recycling cart.

Host tip! For some extra friendly competition during your watch party encourage your guests to bring reusable cups or plates for those game time treats and judge who was the most creative!

You may have read reports of a fire at the Millersville Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility this past Saturday. Luckily, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department jumped into action and quickly extinguished the fire, preventing any damage. We are very thankful for the Fire Department's excellent service and appreciate their support.

Fires in curbside collection trucks, dumpsters, at the Landfill and County Recycling Centers are rare, but when they occur, they are most often caused by the improper disposal of flammable items.

You can help prevent these fires by NEVER disposing of the following items within your curbside containers or at a Waste Management Services Facility:

· Coals or ashes

· Fireworks or sparklers

· Gasoline or other fuels

· Rechargeable batteries

· Oil-based paints

· Chemicals, poisons, or liquids

· Pool Chemicals

· Household and automotive cleaners

To safely dispose of these and other flammable or hazardous household items, Anne Arundel County residents can visit a Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event. Check out the link in the comments for the remaining 2026 event dates and the complete list of accepted items.
