📢 2026 PROPERTY TAX BILLS & DISCOUNT APPLICATIONS

Tax bills and Age/Disability Discount applications will be mailed September 30, 2026.

📄 Age/Disability Discount applications can be returned to our Anniston, Alexandria, or Piedmont offices, by mail, or by email at [email protected]. Our annex offices close for lunch.

⚠️ PAST-DUE TAXES & REDEMPTIONS:
The cutoff time for past-due tax payments and redemptions is 3:30 PM. Must be paid with cash, cashier's check or money order.

Calhoun County offices will be closed Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day.

The Calhoun County Landfill will be closed Saturday, September 5th and Monday, September 7th. Please plan ahead for any county business or landfill needs.

County offices and the landfill will resume normal business hours Tuesday, September 8.

📢 CALHOUN COUNTY REVENUE COMMISSIONER’S OFFICE — GENERAL INFORMATION

We know navigating property taxes, assessments, exemptions, and property records can sometimes be confusing, so we wanted to share some helpful information about services provided by the Calhoun County Revenue Commissioner’s Office.

🏠 PROPERTY TAXES
Property taxes are due October 1st through December 31st each year. Payments can be made through our Collections Department.

💰 HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION
If you own and live in your home, you may qualify for a homestead exemption, which can reduce the amount of property taxes you owe. Be sure to claim any exemptions you may be eligible for.

📋 ASSESS YOUR PROPERTY
Alabama law requires property owners to assess property they own, including improvements. Assessing also helps ensure that we have your correct mailing address and contact information and allows you to claim applicable exemptions.

🏡 NEW PROPERTY OWNERS
When you purchase property, it is your responsibility to make sure:
• Your deed is recorded in the Probate Office.
• The property is assessed in the Assessing Department.
• Any applicable exemptions are claimed.
• Your mailing address is kept current.
• If your mortgage company pays your taxes, a copy of your tax statement is provided to them.

🏡 Property Redemption Reminder – Calhoun County

If your property was sold for unpaid taxes, you may still have the opportunity to redeem it.

The Calhoun County Revenue Commissioner's Office accepts property redemptions during normal business hours. Please remember:
• Redemptions must be completed by 3:30 p.m.
• Certified funds only are accepted (cash, cashier's check, or money order).
• If someone other than the property owner is redeeming the property, additional documentation may be required.

🏡 Meet the Calhoun County Revenue Appraisal Department!

Did you know the Appraisal Department is responsible for maintaining fair and equitable property values for approximately 74,461 parcels throughout Calhoun County?

Our appraisers work year-round to:
✅ Inspect new construction and improvements
✅ Review property changes due to sales, building permits, or taxpayer requests
✅ Maintain accurate property records
✅ Estimate fair market value in accordance with Alabama law and the Alabama Department of Revenue

It's important to know that our appraisers do not create the real estate market. Property values are based on market activity—the buying and selling of property in our community. The Appraisal Department analyzes sales data to ensure assessments are accurate, uniform, and fair for all property owners.

The goal of the Appraisal Department is to ensure every property owner pays only their fair share of the ad valorem taxes that help fund our schools, libraries, public safety, roads, and other essential local services.
