MFGYP Student Industry Tour | Tyler Union

This morning, college students were invited inside Tyler Union for an up-close look at local manufacturing! The informal tour gave students the chance to ask questions, connect with industry professionals, and explore the possibilities behind modern manufacturing... And did we mention the career opportunities available?

Every student who discovers a local career path is one step closer to becoming part of our future workforce. By connecting students with manufacturers before graduation, we can help local companies build a stronger talent pipeline while showing future talent that they don’t have to leave Calhoun County to find meaningful careers.

A huge thank-you to Tyler Union for welcoming us and helping students see manufacturing in action. We greatly appreciate your time and efforts today.

If you were on the tour, we want your feedback! Please share your thoughts on how we can improve here: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/kXpPt4pb9i

Economic Development Day with Leadership Calhoun County!

The Leadership Calhoun County class explored economic development and the EDC's purpose. But we didn’t stop there! The class had a unique opportunity to step into the role of an economic developer and sell their community.

Throughout the day, the class heard from Greg Knighton with the Alabama Department of Commerce, Lauren Hyde with Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, a panel of industry leaders who shared their perspectives on site selection and what companies look for when considering a new location, and toured a few industrial sites.

Then it was time to put their new knowledge to work. Each group received a mock project and was tasked with selling a site to a prospective company, considering everything from workforce and infrastructure to utilities, location, incentives, and overall community readiness. And after some tough competition…

🏆 Group 2 took home the win!

Thank you to the Alabama Department of Commerce, EDPA, our industry panelists, and the Calhoun County Area Chamber & Visitor's Center for making the day such a success. We appreciate your time!

A strong workforce does not happen in isolation. It takes employers willing to invest their time and resources, workforce partners who connect a talented pipeline, and communities working together to make opportunities accessible.

A huge THANK YOU to all the employers, workforce partners, educational partners, volunteers, and organizations who helped make this event possible.

The Calhoun County Economic Development Council was honored to join Associated MetalCast, LLC for a special ribbon-cutting celebrating a significant milestone for the company and recognition of its founder, Ron Douglas.

With more than 25 years in business, AMI has built more than a successful manufacturing operation. The company continues to grow through a $6.25 million expansion that includes a new facility, creating 50 new jobs and further strengthening its presence in our community. At the heart of that growth is a culture centered around people, family, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

The EDC has partnered with AMI since 2008, and we are excited to see that partnership continue as the company looks toward its next chapter. We are incredibly proud to have Associated MetalCast, LLC as part of Calhoun County's manufacturing community.

When educators connect with industry, students benefit.

Last week, 60 new-hire educators from Jacksonville City Schools and Oxford City Schools Education Foundation visited manufacturing companies across Calhoun County, gaining firsthand insight into innovation, technology, and rewarding careers right here in our community.

A special thank you to both school systems for recognizing the value of these industry tours and for encouraging your newest teachers to participate. Educators play an incredible role in shaping their students' futures, and by understanding the careers, skills, and opportunities available in modern manufacturing, they are better equipped to help students discover pathways that align with their interests and talents.

Career awareness begins long before graduation. Every conversation, classroom lesson, and industry connection can help a student see what is possible and inspire them to imagine a future they may never have considered.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our industry partners for opening their doors and sharing information about operations and workforce needs. These tours build stronger connections between education and industry, and we thank you for your support.
