Interfaith Ministries of Calhoun County We seek to address the needs of a variety of our community’s population. We provide assistance and serve as an advocate for individuals and families in crisis.

Our programs are diverse, meeting the needs of our community members ranging in age, socio-economic status, as well as religious and racially diverse backgrounds. Our Purpose is to foster Interfaith cooperation and understanding as we provide a caring environment for people of all ages and socioeconomic levels.

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning, we open our showers to neighbors who don't have one.

Nobody puts the same clothes back on after a shower. They leave in something clean.

There is a difference between getting clean and getting to stay clean, and this room is that difference. It's the part that makes a shower actually count.

Meet Nancy Hunnicutt. She runs Meals on Wheels here at Interfaith, and if your parent ends up on one of our routes, she's the one who set it up.

Here's who this program is for.

Neighbors who are homebound. People who can't safely stand at a stove anymore, or can't get to a grocery store, or are recovering from something and shouldn't be cooking for a while. A hot lunch gets delivered to their door every weekday, right here in Anniston and Oxford.

If you're an adult child with a parent living alone in Calhoun County and you're not close enough to check on them at noon, this is for you as much as it's for them.

You call in the morning. You call at night. But somebody knocking on their door at lunch, handing them a real meal and making sure they're doing alright before moving on, that's the part you can't do from where you are.

Did you know neighbors can stop by Interfaith Ministries and get a sandwich and a snack on days we are open?

Local organizations and individuals donate much of what you see here. Neighbors taking care of neighbors, one sandwich at a time.

Want to help stock the shelf? We're always in need of sandwiches, snack packs, and fruit cups. You can drop donations by our office on Gurnee Ave, Monday through Thursday.

Interfaith Ministries runs on volunteers who show up in more ways than you'd think. Some deliver meals. Some do intake at the front desk. Some sort mail, file paperwork, and keep the whole office running smoothly behind the scenes.

Every single one of those tasks matters. None of it happens without someone willing to give their time.

A lot of people tell us they wish they could do more.

They work days. They're raising kids or caring for a parent. They'd drive a Meals on Wheels route if they could get away at noon, or help with showers on a Tuesday if Tuesday looked different.

Here's the thing. We need both. We need the hands, and we need the giving that pays for what those hands hand out.

A monthly gift buys the food in the box. It fills the prescription. It keeps a family's power on in July.

The work still gets done. Your gift is what does it.

Did you know Interfaith Ministries helps clothe our neighbors in need?

Every shirt and pair of pants on this rack is a real need about to be met. And every single piece was given by someone right here in Calhoun County.

Have new or gently used clothing to give? Drop it by our office on Gurnee Ave, Monday through Thursday. Your closet clean out could be exactly what someone needs this week.

Did you know you need an address to get almost anything?

A job application asks for one. So does a driver's license. So does a benefits letter, a disability check, a doctor's follow-up.

If you don't have an address, you can't get any of it. Which means you can't get the job that would get you the address.

That's the loop our neighbors get stuck in. And it's why there's a wall of wooden cubbies in our building.

Interfaith provides a mailing address for people who don't have one. Their mail comes here. A volunteer sorts it into a box with their name on it. That's the whole system.

Sandra Gooden showed up last week with a stack of towels and a bag full of toothpaste, and she made our Open Door guests' day a little brighter without even knowing it. Fresh towels and toiletries are things a lot of us take for granted, but for our neighbors who use our shower program, they mean dignity and a fresh start to the day. Most of what happens here doesn't get planned.

Somebody walks in on a Tuesday. A power bill is past due. A prescription can't be filled. A neighbor needs a walker before they can go home from the hospital.

We don't know who's coming. We just have to be ready when they do.
