As goodbyes and good lucks are said for this outgoing Executive Director’s newest adventure, we also want to welcome Cynthia Brown into the role of Interim Executive Director!

Today was a day of passing the torch. Not physically, because we aren’t allowed to have torches in the office anymore, but we passed on a tremendous weight of protecting and serving children. We enjoyed fellowship with volunteers and a few laughs to get us by. We celebrated teamwork!

Cynthia has been a CASA staff superhero for over six years now following a thousand and a half years at DHR in many capacities. We joke with DHR about stealing their best worker… and we will do it again. 🤭

Cynthia is a fearless leader, advocate, and friend. She is a book of endless knowledge in serving children victim to abuse, and she has never met a challenge she didn’t conquer. We look forward to seeing the outpouring of success to come!

Please help us in congratulating Cynthia on her new position with CASA and consistently being a voice for children.

Together we can. With Cynthia we can…er.

Dear CASA Volunteer,

Take the chance on the teen. You’ll be at every hearing. Years later, you might just be at her adoption. Then, you might just be at every milestone after, like her high school graduation. She’s not allowed to date until she’s 40, or we’d anticipate being at the wedding, too!

For a volunteer who never gave up the years this thoughtful girl was in foster care, the girl never gave up on her either.

To all the milestones together!

Take the leap for a child.

Just one day shy of starting school, four of our girls experiencing foster care lacked school supplies and clothes. Frustrated that they were already starting school “different” than everyone else and not set up for success, we set out to find them clothes and supplies thanks to generous critical needs fund donors.

When one of the girls suggested XTreme Sales in Jacksonville for good prices, we showed up with the clock ticking. The owner of Xtreme Sales in Jacksonville gifted us with half off all the already low prices on all their clothes and shoes! This meant the girls got double what they originally picked out! If you stop in, please tell them thank you for supporting child abuse victims! Our next stop was Walmart for everything else.

Our children don’t have the same opportunities and the same luxuries of kids in traditional homes, but because of local businesses and local donors, these girls can walk into school a little more confident tomorrow.

Good luck on your first day, brave girls! There are hundreds of CASA friends rooting for you.

Cheaha CASA has never turned down a single appointment from our judges. So far this fiscal year, we have served nearly 430 children victim to abuse.

Today, we ventured out to visit some very precious children. When there aren’t enough volunteers to be assigned, staff fill in some gaps, snuggle all the babies, and floor play with the toughest toddlers around. We admit that sometimes we like to keep the chunky babies and fun teenagers ourselves. 🤫

Speaking of not turning down any court appointment, that only applies to children. The sun conures don’t meet the requirements for a CASA…. But we might give him one anyway.

When an abused or neglected child in the system needed help, for over seven years we have called out to Sharon Finch: CASA Advocate.

But those children most affectionately know her as Mrs. Sharon: their unwavering voice against the monsters. Their bold and tireless friend who always showed up. Their dedicated advocate who never really took no for an answer when it came to what they needed.

Over seven years, there has been no child Sharon has turned away when we asked her to serve. She has driven thousands and thousands of miles to ensure children, some not even assigned to her, were safe and felt loved. She spent thousands of hours asking teenagers to get up, they were being successful that day. Sharon never asked them to do anything alone- no, Sharon was standing next to them with job applications, educational plans, and a smile. Sharon spent housands of hours making sure no baby fell through the cracks. Sharon never hesitated in icy situations if it meant a kid was protected. Sharon said yes to large sibling groups that were hard to assign. Sharon always said yes.

Sharon is retiring from CASA after dedicating over seven years to a noble mission dear to her heart and ours.

Sharon, no words can ever express how much we appreciate your commitment to not us, but them. The kids who didn’t have a single other soul in their corner some days. You showed up, and you kept coming back. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts and the hearts of countless precious little blue whales.

We’re celebrating you, coming up. Friends, we’re going to need more confetti 🎉

A few weeks ago, we asked for two sets of bunk beds for some precious children living their best day- going home to mom! Mom has worked so hard, and Amber Sparks, Pam Burdett, and Judge Tom Wright ALL sent a set of bunk beds complete with well wishes to all. The sweet, sunny eyed mother told us that the kids all loved their new beds and bikes, but at night they all wanted to curl up in ONE bed! What other mothers can relate?!

Today, our need didn’t make it to Facebook. It stopped at the feet of Lori James Brown. When Lori heard the story of two teenage girls who had lost everything in a heart wrenching transition into care, she jumped into action and funded more joy in these girls lives than they may have ever had. Lori’s one request was let them know that they are loved by a complete stranger who Lori claims name doesn’t matter. Love doesn’t have to have a name, but we know the name is Lori.

Tonight, we want to say thank you to those who consistently show up. All of these donors are repeat givers who never ask for recognition, but always follow up and ask if anything else is needed. Something is always needed, and so are they.

Foster care doesn’t take days off. Thank you to you all who answer no matter the day. We can with YOU.
