On Tuesday, August 18 at 7:30 p.m., the Annville Cleona Fire Department and our mutual aid partners responded to a reported structure fire on South Lancaster Street in South Annville Township. Thirteen ACFD members responded to assist a community member in need.

Fortunately, firefighters found the fire was contained to the oven and stovetop. Crews confirmed the fire was extinguished, checked for extension into the surrounding walls and cabinets, and ventilated the home. Damage was minimal and limited to a gas range and one London broil. A good reminder: always have working smoke alarms in your home and keep a working fire extinguisher in your kitchen.

This week, 12 members traded a beautiful Monday evening for training at ACFD. Led by the Fire Chief and Deputy Chief, members focused on long hose line deployments for challenging incidents such as alley access homes, large barn and poultry house fires, dormitory fires, and warehouse fires. After discussing deployment strategies at several alley access residences, crews put those deployment plans into action with varying staffing levels.

At the same time, members rotated through deck gun operations while current and future pump operators gained valuable pump time. To wrap up the evening, we even had the chance to cool off some overheated band camp members. Training never stops!

Training Night at Cleona Station 🚒

Last night, members used the Cleona station for a hands-on, real-world training scenario involving both the wagon and the engine.

Probationary members practiced connecting to a hydrant, while firefighters worked through obstacles and different scenarios inside the station. Members learning to drive also gained valuable time behind the wheel of both apparatus.

Training like this helps our volunteers build confidence, sharpen their skills, and prepare to serve our community when the call comes.

Training Together, Preparing for the Next Call

Last night, for our weekly training, members split into two groups to sharpen different skills.

Probationary and experienced rescue qualified members worked together on tool staging, covering why it matters, how it is done, and how organized equipment helps crews work safely and efficiently during an incident.

Current and future Rescue drivers received hands-on training with the truck’s systems, including the hydraulic rescue tools, light tower, and other equipment they may be responsible for operating.

Training like this builds confidence, strengthens teamwork, and helps every member stay ready for the next call.

Congratulations to former member, Ryan Gibney on his graduation from Baltimore County Fire Academy and being named valivictorian of his class. Ryan was one of the top responders at ACFD during his time as a student at LVC until he graduated from the physical therapy program in 2025. We wish him all the best!

Shortly after midnight this morning, ACFD responded to Campbelltown to assist with a commercial structure fire.

ACFD firefighters performed extensive roof operations and remained on scene for several hours supporting containment and overhaul efforts. Our fire police units also provided scene and traffic support throughout the incident.

We’re proud of the hard work our volunteers put in and to have worked alongside the Campbelltown Volunteer Fire Company and the other mutual-aid departments on scene.

At the Annville Cleona Fire Department, our philosophy is that every event, whether it’s an emergency response, an in house training session, or a state certification class, is an opportunity to learn something new. Training never stops because there is always something to learn.

On Friday morning at 8:00 a.m., 10 members participated in Quint Operations Training, focusing on the many capabilities and operational functions of Tower 58. The training was coordinated by Assistant Chief Matt Zechman and highlighted the versatility of the apparatus while reinforcing the skills needed to safely and effectively operate it.

The recent return of our morning training sessions provides members who work evening and night shifts with additional opportunities to participate in in house training.

Great job to Assistant Chief Zechman and all of the members who continue to invest in their skills and our department’s mission!

The Annville Cleona Fire Department is actively recruiting new volunteers. We provide all necessary training and equipment to prepare you to safely and confidently respond to emergencies like this one.
