Water Well Screening Program

Do you know what’s in your well water? The Texas Well Owner Network (TWON) “Well Informed” Program is coming to our area this October and provides local landowners an affordable opportunity to have their private well water screened.

Water samples will be screened for:
• E. coli & coliform bacteria
• Nitrates
• Salinity (TDS)

📅 Sample Drop-Off:
Tuesday, October 13 | 8:30–10:00 a.m.
Jones County Extension Office

💲 Cost: $15 per sample — and you may submit multiple wells!

Following the screening, participants are encouraged to attend the Results & Interpretation Meeting on Thursday, October 15 at 3:00 p.m. in Roby. Specialists will help explain your results and discuss ways to protect your well and groundwater.

⚠️ Important: Samples need to be collected properly for accurate results. Please see the attached collection instructions and sample form before collecting your water. Samples should be collected within 24 hours of the workshop and kept refrigerated/cool until drop-off.

Whether your well supplies your home, livestock, or irrigation, this is a great opportunity to learn more about the quality of your groundwater.

There are many tools in the toolkit for preventing and treating New World screwworm (NWS). The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized and conditionally approved drugs available for NWS infestation and prevention. Animal owners and livestock producers are advised to contact their veterinarian to receive direction on the appropriate product for their animals.
