Safe Bar 100

Yesterday we celebrated a huge milestone, the 100th bar added to the Safe Bar program!! Congratulations to the (sexual assault center) Rachel Freeman and Lorraine McGuire on all of their success! Thank you to , our amazing Night Mayor who has been with us as well, holding people accountable!

The Women's Caucus has been working with SAC for the last 4 years to advocate for bars to be trained in helping to prevent sexual assault, with drug testing coasters and an app that identifies our Safe Bar trained locations in Nashville. When we started there were only two bars on Broadway interested, most said no. But we all pushed and now it is 100!!

Here is to the next 100!

Dolly Parton was one of my heroes. She was a larger than life figure who used her world wide platform to champion causes that made the world a better place. From literacy to economic development in underserved areas, Dolly was a change maker.

The picture above is how I think of Dolly from when I was a little girl singing along to 9 to 5 from the movie. She was definitely an inspiration for my country career. Listening to Dolly and Reba, I learned about the power of lyrics and building a world in three minutes. She is one of the few artists to have a crossover hit that spanned decades with Whitney Houston's version of her song, I Will Always Love You.

Dolly was a force of nature and the world is better because she was in it. She had a thousand assignments and she completed them all plus one. From her upcoming hotel to her Broadway bound musical, Dolly Parton lived a lifetime and then some and continues to leave a legacy of love and light!

Racetrack Petition: DO NOT SIGN IT

I posted three weeks ago about the fraudulent 'volunteers' collecting signatures for Affordable Housing at the fairgrounds. They say 'Sign here is you want affordable housing' But what they really want is racing to be gone from the fairgrounds. I do not care what side of the argument you are on, you cannot win by lying.

I mentioned that they tried to collect signatures at Southeast Community Day and I kicked them out. Then the news stories started. Well, these people have doubled down on their efforts. By the way, these are PAID 'volunteers'. Most are peddling the lie about affordable housing, but some are actually presenting a reasonable option of signing to get the conversation on the ballot. That reasoning I can stomach, but only a handful use that approach. The majority just lie and can be belligerent when approached. Not a useful tactic if you ask me.

But today, I was walking to Chick Fil-A for lunch and I watched a manager run out of the store to tell them to leave. I congratulated him for his efforts! You cannot harass or corner people with a lie. Or rather, I should say, you should not but it happens all the time.

What a fantastic day!! I had a wonderful time at the ENP brunch as a Neighborhood Advocate nominee along with my colleague CM Brenda Gadd. It was an honor to be nominated! Senator Charlane Oliver won the award and that was well deserved:)

Then I stopped by CM Gregg's Community meeting at the Donelson Library regarding two large rezonings in District 15. It was packed house. There will be more meetings and more conversation. And I was able to take a tour with Brian, the head librarian of the Donelson Library. They have a mascot! We need one, too!
