SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

Arizona State Parks strongly believes that social media is a tool for consumers and communities to receive updates. We believe firmly that social media must be a safe space for all participants to engage in full and fair dialogue. All posters are encouraged to agree or disagree on any positions on any of our social media outlets. We remind individuals who post, that children,

youth and families have access to all of these posts and we want to maximize participation that is free from intimidation or bullying. Name-calling, intimidation or bullying of other social media participants will never be tolerated. Abusive, excessively disruptive and harassing posts will also be considered prohibitive of the fair and safe space we intend to maintain. Posts with unrelated information or political agendas will be removed. We will monitor communications and take appropriate action in order to ensure that these policies are consistently adhered to.

A pair of doves decided to build their nest just outside our ranger station, at the picnic table where we often eat lunch. 🙃 They don’t seem to mind us much.

Dove nests are notoriously flimsy, basically just a shallow pile of barely held-together sticks. We watched the birds build this one in a few days, and it seems to suit them well enough, despite bits of it hanging off the side of the table. 🫠

Once the mother lays eggs, both parents will take turns incubating them for about 14 days. Babies are called squabs and will leave the nest after another 12-15 days.

Let’s play a game of true or false! See how many of these horned lizard facts you know (and report back in the comments). Ready?

1️⃣ Horned lizards can shoot blood out of their eyes to scare predators.
2️⃣ These lizards may play dead if threatened.
3️⃣ They have sticky tongues that snap like rubber bands.

(If you guessed true for all of them, you’re correct!)

Fancy a picnic? As temperatures rise, it’s a great way to enjoy the park and beautiful views without the strain of hiking in the heat. Head over to our Day Use area and find a ramada where you can enjoy a nice, relaxing time in the shade. These first come, first served ramadas can seat about 4-6 people, so bring your friends!

And if you want to have a larger gathering, we have group ramadas available to rent up to a year in advance. You can even cook on one of our grills! 🍔🌭Visit our website to learn more about the Cholla and Saguaro Group Ramadas.

This house finch has got the best perch at the pond! Not only is this rock a great landing pad for a quick sip, but it’s also an important feature to make sure small creatures like bees and butterflies don’t get stuck in the water when drinking.
