US Rep. Andy Biggs, who’s running to be the state’s next governor, is under fire for being soft on predators, and a newly uncovered 2005 vote could lead to even more scrutiny.

In 2005, Biggs was one of only three state lawmakers to vote against Senate Bill 1382, legislation requiring s*x offenders relocating to Arizona to re-register.

It wasn't a one-time anomaly, advocates say – it's part of a pattern. In 2007, Biggs blocked legislation to boost penalties for predators who preyed on children—despite bipartisan support. In 2013, Biggs killed a bill holding a local police force accountable for looking away as girls in rural Arizona were abused. In 2025, Biggs was one of just two congressional Republicans on a House subcommittee to oppose releasing the Epstein files in full — a year after backing their release.
