Ever Wonder What Those Rocks Are?

If you've ever driven along Highway 98 and wondered what those rocks out in the water are like I once did, here you go!
They're part of a living shoreline. The oyster reefs and salt marsh grasses help slow wave energy, reduce erosion, and stabilize the shoreline, creating a natural buffer that helps protect Highway 98 while also providing valuable coastal habitat. The Commission gets an update on the progress every so often.

Construction of phase 3 of the Franklin 98 Living Shoreline Project will begin September 1st.

Beginning July 27th through November* (tentatively), all Franklin County Board of County Commissioners meetings, special meetings and workshops will be held at the Fort Coombs Armory due to construction and renovations at the Franklin County Annex.
