🌱 It’s Growing Season at AWT!
We’re expanding into West Virginia, growing our agriculture team, and strengthening interagency partnerships to help farmers get the funding—and approvals—they need for on-farm improvements like composters and stacking sheds. 💪

Last week our team gathered for a Lunch & Learn focused on Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans (CNMPs). We reviewed real-life scenarios, shared tips for navigating state and NRCS requirements, and sharpened our approach to writing practical, farmer-focused plans.

At AWT, we believe that staying sharp means staying connected—both to each other and to the changing needs of ag producers across the Southeast.

👨‍🌾 Need help with a CNMP? Our team is ready to support you with planning, permitting, and technical documentation.

🚜 AWT hit the ground running in Q1 2025!
From the NC Pork Council Conference to the Deep South Poultry Conference, our team traveled across the Southeast to strengthen industry relationships, support producers, and engage with key partners. We connected with farmers, service techs, NRCS offices, and ag companies to build momentum heading into the rest of the year.

Thanks to everyone who met with us—we’re excited to keep the conversations going!

🌡️ Can You Spot the Heat Loss?
These thermal images tell the story: poor insulation can mean serious energy loss—and higher heating costs.

Sidewall and attic insulation are critical components of any well-performing poultry or livestock house. At AWT, we regularly assess insulation performance using thermal cameras to identify weak spots and recommend cost-effective upgrades.

🧱 Sidewall Insulation
We typically see walls that are lacking insulation and recommend batt or spray foam insulation in walls, averaging R-11 to R-13. Proper wall insulation helps maintain stable indoor temperatures, improving both flock comfort and energy efficiency.

🏠 Attic Insulation
Attic spaces are often overlooked—but they’re a major source of heat loss. We recommend R-19 blown fiberglass for optimal thermal resistance and long-term savings.

Why it matters:
✔️ Lower propane and electric bills
✔️ Improved temperature control
✔️ Better bird performance
✔️ Reduced equipment strain

📸 Swipe through the thermal images to see the difference good insulation makes.

Last week, Emory Skinner attended the Tennessee Poultry Association’s Service Tech Workshop in Lebanon, TN—an event focused on the boots-on-the-ground side of poultry production.

With sessions on grower communication, flock health, summertime ventilation, and biosecurity, the workshop reinforced just how critical service technicians are to farm success. Emory connected with industry leaders, growers, and fellow technical professionals—all working toward the same goal: keeping barns running smoothly and birds healthy.

These workshops play a vital role in sharing practical knowledge, strengthening communication between growers and service crews, and advancing the standards of poultry care across the state.

We’re proud to be part of the conversation and look forward to supporting the service techs who make it all happen.

🚜 Modern Solutions for On-Farm Mortality Management 🐓🐖

Many producers have relied on incinerators for years—but as these systems age, rust, inefficiency, and rising maintenance costs have made them less reliable. That’s why more farmers are turning to NRCS-supported alternatives through EQIP, including:

💨 Forced-Air Composters – Circulate oxygen through the pile with no turning required. These closed-loop systems eliminate odors and reduce mess.

🔁 Rotary Drums – Load with a tractor, set it, and forget it. Automatic rotation and enclosed design mean faster composting, no flies, and improved biosecurity.

🔥 Thermal Dehydrators – Process up to 100 lbs/hour, converting mortalities into a dry, high-protein byproduct. They’re odor-free, fly-free, and come with remote monitoring.

These systems help farms meet biosecurity and environmental goals while reducing operational headaches.

📍Talk to your local NRCS office to learn what’s available in your area and how to get funding.
