🚨 DO YOU KNOW ABOUT FLORIDA'S SUPER SPEEDER LAW? 🚨

Think speeding is just a ticket? Think again.

Under Florida's new Super Speeder Law, drivers can face criminal charges for:
⚠️ Driving 50 MPH or more over the posted speed limit
⚠️ Driving 100 MPH or more in a manner that endangers others or interferes with traffic

Penalties may include:
🔹 Mandatory court appearance
🔹 Up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine for a first offense
🔹 Increased penalties for repeat offenders, including possible license suspension

Speeding isn't just dangerous, it can be deadly. Higher speeds reduce reaction time, increase stopping distance, and make crashes far more severe.

👋The Chief Checks In👋
Chief Quinn-Henry visited with Bridget and Viatcheslav, owners of Verona Café, as part of the Apopka Police Department's ongoing Chief's Check-In initiative.

These visits provide valuable opportunities to connect with local business owners, learn about their successes and challenges, hear their perspectives, and strengthen the partnerships that help our community grow and thrive.

Thank you to Bridget and Viatcheslav for the warm welcome, engaging conversation, and continued investment in the City of Apopka. We appreciate all that Verona Café does to contribute to our vibrant community.

Black bears are a natural part of Florida’s wildlife, and sightings in and around Apopka are not uncommon. The best way to keep bears wild and our community safe is to remove attractants and give bears plenty of space. Remember, a bear in the neighborhood does not necessarily mean there is an emergency. By securing food sources and avoiding interactions, we can help prevent conflicts and keep both residents and wildlife safe.

If you call the Apopka Police Department about a bear sighting, here is what to expect:
📞 Dispatchers and officers will gather information about the bear's location, direction of travel, and behavior.
🚓 Officers may respond to assess the situation and ensure there is no immediate threat to people or property.
🐻 In most cases, bears move through the area on their own and do not need intervention.
⚠️ APD does not relocate bears. Relocation decisions are made by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) when appropriate.

For more information about living responsibly with bears, visit MyFWC.com/Bear.

After reviewing year-to-date crime statistics, the Apopka Police Department is pleased to report a reduction in both Violent Crimes and Property Crimes compared to the same period last year.

The department proudly serves more than 67,000 residents within the City of Apopka, and these results reflect the dedication of the officers, professional staff, community partners, businesses, and residents working together to maintain a safe city.

It is important to remember that not every incident reported as occurring in “Apopka” actually happens within the City of Apopka. Many surrounding unincorporated areas have an Apopka mailing address but fall under the jurisdiction of our law enforcement partners. The statistics shown reflect crimes reported and investigated within the Apopka Police Department’s jurisdiction.
While there is always more room for improvement, these numbers demonstrate that proactive policing, strong community partnerships, and shared responsibility are making a positive impact.

Together, let’s continue to keep the City of Apopka a safe and thriving community where families can live, work, and grow.

Today, on National Gun Violence Awareness Day, the Apopka Police Department joins communities across the country in raising awareness about the impact of gun violence and the importance of prevention.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to help prevent tragedies is through responsible firearm ownership. Secure fi****ms in a locked safe or with a locking device, store ammunition separately, and ensure fi****ms are inaccessible to children and unauthorized individuals.

The Apopka Police Department celebrated our first Employee & Family Fun Day.

Policing is more than a profession; it is a commitment that is shared by the families who support employees through long hours, holidays, and unexpected calls for service. Seeing the officers, professional staff, spouses, children, and loved ones together served as a reminder that behind every police department role is a loved one that helps to make the mission possible.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, volunteered, and helped make the event a success. The smiles, laughter, and connections made strengthened the bonds that makes the Apopka Police Department more than a team; we are family.
