It has been brought to my attention that there is some question as to who is responsible for maintaining the grass located between private property and the street where the ditch and culverts are located. By ordinance it is the property owners and managers responsibility to mow and keep clear of any debris between the roadways/alleys.

Below is the ordinance. Please contact City Hall or the Police Department if you have any questions.

Section 510.050
Responsibility For Right-Of-Way and Easements — Established.
[Ord. No. 2015-13, 12-8-2015]
Whenever private property abuts a public right-of-way or easement belonging to the City, or any other public entity, and there exists in such right-of-way or easement a tree, lawn or grassy area between the private property line and the midline of the street or easement, then such tree, lawn or grassy area shall be considered a street park, for purposes of this Section, to be part of the private lot which abuts the street or easement, and it shall be the duty of those responsible under this Section for mowing and manicuring the alley, street right-of-way, alley right-of-way, sidewalk, or public place, and mowing of the private lot to equally maintain the tree, lawn or grassy area within the abutting right-of-way or easement, and all of the provisions of this Section shall apply with equal force and effect to said tree, lawn or grassy area known as the street park

Today I learned that Timmy L. "T.J" (29) McIntire Jr. passed away. I have been gone from the office for a couple days and am saddened to hear of his passing. It is with a heavy heart that I am posting this, but when any members of our community hurt we all hurt. As most of us are parents we all understand that no words can ever erase the pain his family feels during this time.

Timmy was born February 21, 1992 and he grew up in our beautiful town. T.J is survived by two sons, his fiancé Shelby Adams; his mother Jeannette McIntire and stepfather, Tommy Carter; his father Timmy McIntire, Sr.; his sister Kayla Carter; one half-sister, Timmire McDonald; and two nephews and his Grandparents Carmon and Verna Taylor, and Sandra Mitchell.

Often in Law Enforcement we come into contact with many people for various reasons. But, the one thing many people don't know is that when our community hurts we too hurt. Even though it will never be enough, and on behalf of the Appleton City Police Department you are all in our thoughts. May you find comfort in his memory and remember all the times you had with him.
